Durian: The King of Fruits

Durian is an unforgettable smell! I'm scared to try it as the scent puts me off so much. I need to read this thread in the morning as I'm off to bed now...maybe it'll give me the courage to pick up some in China town and try it :)

same as. Apparently even if you fart you farts will smell a lot more than usual

Obviously I'm a lady and wouldn't do such a thing :o

Actually I bought some Durian sweets once in Malaysia a few years ago. The unopened bag is still sitting in a drawer somewhere:D

Smelled some Durians in Singapore as people were cutting them open at a market, they smelled like a rancid bager's anus with a hint of sewers. We were going to try some on our last day and record the outcome (inevitable puking) but didn't get chance. Maybe next time !

I was on a bus once in Thailand - quite a long journey of a few hours and my backpack was in the hold. Halfway through the trip the bus stopped at a roadside stall so the bus 'stewardess' could buy a durian. She then put it on top of my backpack for the rest of the journey. My clothes and everything in the backpack REEKED of durian for the next few days :D

Slight derail but has anyone tried Jackfruit? I had some a few years ago and it made me gag! Its the most sickening, cloying, sweet fruit I've had the misfortune to ever eat. Just the sight of it now makes me heave.

Durian are fucking wonderful. We're at the end of durian season here in Myanmar, where we get a smaller, sweet, potent variety of the fruit. I've been eating them most days, and I'll miss em now the season's done. We get imported Thai ones, but they're tasteless and shite.

I love everything about durian - the smell (it smells like it tastes), the texture, the ritual of opening the fruit and then opening the little pockets inside where the fruit is (they look like little white turds :p ), the sharing (durian are best eaten with chums) and the taste ohhhhhhhhh ohhhhh ohhhhhhhh the taste.

Long live durian :)

Some bastard though it would be a good idea to bring some of the indescribably disgusting smelling "fruit" that is durian into the office.

Into the office FFS!

I'm in a large, open-plan room with several people and we all had to leave. It is now festering up on our roof terrace as my antisocial colleague still wants to eat it but no-one will let him keep it inside the building.

There is nothing good about this fruit. They fall from trees and kill people. You may die if you eat a whole one as they contain so much potassium. They are spiky and evil-looking.

Say "NO!" to durian!
:D :D :D

I agree with you. Whoever brought it into your office should be whipped with the spikes of the fruit tied to the ends of bits of fishing line :)

I've got a big jackfruit tree in my garden, but I'm not into it as much as durian. It's best taken off the tree unripe and then curried. They do this a lot in Indonesia, it's great. doesn't taste like fruit at all. More meaty. Good for veggies.

You're a right wrong'un.

Thank you for comparing parts of the durian to white turds - that sounds so appetising:eek:
