Dunwich Dynamo - London to Dunwich bike ride, 8/9 July 2006

here's a taster for the Dunwich Dynamo

This Saturday night (13th May) will be a full moon. That's an opportunity for an all night bike ride which is not to be missed!

So I will be leading an all-night ride, setting off from London at 9pm, heading out for breakfast by the seaside in Hastings, and returning from there by train on Sunday morning.

Meet up for a 9pm departure from the Southwark Needle (that's the wierd sculpture at the southern end of London Bridge, outside Evans Cycles). Once we're out of London, the ride follows quiet lanes (and they are extremely quiet after c.2a.m.). About 75 miles in total.

Bring some food and drink for a post-midnight picnic, warm clothing (it can get chilly) and money for the return train fare (£15.40, or £10.15 with a railcard).

I think I'm gonna do it :)

I'd do it but it's the FA Cup final.

So I'm going to be absolutely wankered by saturday night. win or lose. :)

yay - let´s get a posse together and do the Dunwich this year! Even if peeps only do a couple of day-long rides in June, that´d be enough to get fit in time, easily

If you go to the Southwark Cyclists website, you can sign up to get the coach back and you can stick your bike in the coach too.

Let´s have an evening of watching the wonderful 'Bellevue Rendezvous' avec vino chez moi with vino in preperation/motivation ;)

Few more months of cycling and I might be fit enough to do it... but at the moment I'd do a few miles and collapse :D

I'd be up for the film though, tis a classic :)

This thread has inspired me to the extent that I have elected to return to cycling after a 29 year absence, with the specific intention of doing the Dunwich Dynamo.
I picked up my new bike earlier this week, (Bianchi, since you ask) and am currently nursing a sore backside, but determindely out on the bike on a daily basis. I never saw myself as gettting match fit in the space of 5 / 6 weeks, so it's a case of I'd love to join you all, but it'll be next year rather than this.

Maggot - not so much apathy as the mind is willing but the body is weak - in my instance.

Good luck, and slight envy of all those of you who do the run

Han,

I've just ordered some Ordnance Survey maps for a London Cambridge bike ride to Strawbery Fair.. Are you up for it?

Hi abee :)

Biddly - cool, I reckon we should have a Bellevue Rendezvous evening at some point soon for any cycling enthusiasts who are upferrit!

Citydreams - I'll be in Italy then so won't be able to make the Strawb fair ride.

What a lovely idea! Are you getting a little posse together? Is there a route you can go that's not too busy with cars?

I'd love to do a London to Brighton one (esp if going along non-busy roads). I wonder if there's a traffic-lite cycle route.

Actually, a london orbital ring ride around the whole city would probably be good training for the Dunwich, wouldn't it? And would probably take about a day.

Not on the motorway, obviously :D
