Off topic, but is the Foundation trilogy unfilmable? I was a big Asimov fan as a child. Apart from I, Robot I don't know of any film adaptations

I reckon trying to force it into a film format would require so much speeding up, gutting and restructuring you wouldn't get anything worth using the books for at the end. May as well steal whatever ideas might work and make a new thing altogether.

TV series is more possible though, has all the elements for a political, House of Cards sort of thing. Not sure modern TV could let it be what it is though, a series of crisis which from what I remember are usually managed by key players who are fairly capable of dealing with them. Not high octane, skin of the teeth, scraping by cliffhangers. Almost something that should have been made a few decades ago in the era of the BBC War & Peace series (and I, Claudius, Tinker, Tailer, original House of Cards etc) when more sedate story telling was allowed and writing was trusted to carry things more than action.

Asimov can't write characters for shit, so he's at his best with strong ideas. The central idea behind Foundation is so ridiculous, it makes enjoyment impossible, IME.

That didn't bother me when I was 11. It may do now which is why I'm not re-reading Foundation

I just fact-checked this and it turns out I had confused two books, although the bloke in them is the same.
