Dulwich Hamlet vs Maidstone Utd, Sat 18th April - all ticket

Taper

Mark McGann
0-0. 3000 crowd (plus a few I reckon).

Great game. Hamlet worked so hard and were probably the better team against a tough and dogged Maidstone. Maidstone pretty much promoted at the end, so lots of celebrations, pitch invasion etc.

And then a rather moving love in between the fans. Back pats, handshakes, and congratulatory songs.

This is how football should be.

That was pretty weird, but wonderful all the same. I never thought that I would see anything like that down at Dulwich. I love the way that so much has changed, yet so much remains. Everyone has been carried along for the ride.

The game wasn't dull, just highly tactical. Stopping the league champions from scoring is no mean feat. I hate all the usual loved up cliches, but both sets of fans did their clubs extremely proud today.

Quality day out in the sunshiiiiiiiiiine

Chatted to some Maidstone fans after the game in the Fox, decent fellas. Said they'd love us to come up with them..

If we make play offs is it a midweek evening away day? Cheers

Next week Enfield home to Witham (relegated),Met Police home to Hornchurch (r), we need a point to guarantee playoffs (4/5th) at safe Tonbridge. Maidstone virtual champs yesterday. Grays cannot catch us. Met police have better goal difference but need to win and us lose. We can get at point at Tonbridge. It's Hendon or Margate away Thursday (?) week provided we get that point on Saturday.

A great day out and loved every minute of it.

We watched the later matches in the Cherry Tree, thanks to their countless number of TV's the pub was rammed with Chelsea, United, Maidstone, Dulwich Hamlet and East Dulwich's anti-Chelsea fans. I had to laugh when the Maidstone fans piped up and were instantly drowned out by a chorus of 'Tuscany' !

Post Burgess Hill Town match - Pink Panther - standing on a table - some Dulwich fans but mainly people in there having a quiet drink - singing "Leatherhead is falling down, falling down, falling down; Leatherhead is falling down, poor old Brady".

"Build it up with Pink 'n' Blue, Pink 'n' Blue, Pink 'n' Blue, Build it up with Pink 'n' Blue, poor old Brady!"

All in the Cherry Tree.

I'm sure I was only standing on a chair, not a table. My knees aren't up to tables (or luggage racks) any more. And no one in there was having a quiet drink that evening! There were actually rather a lot of Hamlet fans in there.

Leatherhead blowing fifth place by losing at home was just a nice little bonus to round off a great day for the Hamlet.
