Dulwich Hamlet v Faversham Town (League cup, 10th Jan 2017)

Thought there were some decent individual performances, but as a team it wasn't really working (which is understandable given it wasn't the regular starting XI). Yamfam certainly has something about him - really likes to get his foot on the ball and be positive, although I felt his final ball let him down at times. A little reminiscent of RMP, I thought. RMW blew hot and cold again and doesn't seem to have the blistering pace he had when he first joined us, but he took his goal brilliantly and hopefully that'll give him a boost. He took an absolute bollocking from Kevin James for "daydreaming" at one point, mind you.

Debayo adds a bit of physicality at the back and made a crucial tackle late on in the second half. As has already been said, though, he and Taylor didn't seem to be on the same wavelength at times. I thought our stand-out player was Green, who once again was a big threat powering forward down the left.

Faversham really grew in confidence after their goal and if the match had gone on for another 5 minutes I feel they might have got their equaliser. Thankfully, it didn't.

Made hard work of that, they were poor but we didn't really capitalise, indeed we needed Preston to keep us in it at times.

Defence looked like they had just met for the first time (to be fair they probably had, I didn't recognise the no 6 on the team sheet and it was a rare start for Quade Taylor.

Yamfam and RMW both looked good in flashes, and combined brilliantly for the first goal. Sekaja can't get on the end of a byline cross, always seems to just miss the ball.

Gavin clearly wanted to win and used subs to bring on established players rather than trying out new talent (didn't recognise at least one guy on the bench).

That worked, with the second goal being a 3 sub Clunis-Beaney-Tomlin combo.

Tired finish almost saw Faversham get back into it and a draw wouldnt have been an unfair result.

The two youngsters on the bench, Mohamed Mohamed and Kiki Oshilaja, are both part of the current crop of ASPIRE Academy players. Both have been unused subs in FA Trophy games, Mohamed at Royston & Kiki at Winchester. Not seen enough of Mohamed who plays up front to judge but Kiki is quite a character. Tends to play centre half and has a touch of the Chris Dicksons about him in his attitude & determination as well as grabbing more than his fair share of goals. If people have a Wednesday afternoon off would recommend watching the lads in action, details of fixtures are on the website.

News to me. I think the London Senior Final may be at our place.
It that fixed, even if we're in it? Would certainly make sense from an attendance point of view, whtough teh oppoosition might object!

Ah, think I had a rather confused convo with Mr Primo and you are correct there! Thanks for clarifying that. Do you know where the final of this is?
For several years I think it's always been held at a venue with a 3G pitch. Last year it was Carshalton, it was at Maidstone more than once, and I think Whytelefe staged one. Maybe, Worthing, Sudbury or Harlow this year?

Apart from the few times the League Cup has been two legged it has always been at a neutral venue.
I'm fairly sure Maidstone played on their own ground one year. They seem to fix a venue in advance these days rather than wait for the finalists to be known and pick somewhere geographically inbetween as they used to.

Carshalton would be good.

I would find it rather strange to have the League cup final at a club that didn't play in our league ...........

It won't be. I think the League like having it on a 3G pitch as the date can be set in stone, and there's no danger of having to reschedule at a time (it's usually last Wednesday in March) when clubs are sometimes struggling to fit in a backlog of fixtures.

I admit to rambling a bit here.

A narrow victory and soup buoyancy ruminations as Dulwich Hamlet progress to quarter finals of What’s-His-Name Cup

The date for the next round, quarter finals, away to AFC Hornchurch has now been fixed for Tuesday 31st January. That means the Merstham game has been postponed. There's no new date for that as yet as Merstham are still in both the League Cup and the Surrey Senior Cup both of which would take precedence.

Anyone who doesnt make the trip out to essex isnt a REAL fan and should be forced to use the OTHER forum.

Probably better to have this game four days before Braintree than a league match.
