Dulwich Hamlet v Concord Rangers - Saturday 11th August 2018

Last ten minutes the Concord dugout kept shouting "take it to the corner" to any forward who had the ball, and shouted out at those that didn't
The cheers their dugout gave at the end, highlighted just how amazed they were to have secured 3 points (robbed)
If we had played badly would be worried, but we didnt
we just need to keep the fans coming and getting behind the team, Gavin will do the rest

turn the anger into action (it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt)

Beasant will remember 7th Feb 2017 FA Trophy 3rd Round. Dulwich put 5 past him in the Braintree goal. The second goal where his clearance hit a defender and flew in his own net was the funniest OG I've seen.
And a fantastic bit of karma after he’d kicked lumps out of the penalty spot ahead of Ash’s first half pen.

Beasant's behaviour was tedious but there's not anything wrong with that tweet is there?
Perfectly acceptable banter to me. If we'd scored he couldn't have posted it.

Apart from the mysterious attack of cramp I didn't think he did anything wrong. He certainly wasn't timewasting as persistently as the ETU keeper the other night.

It was a very niggly game like the one at Welling with a lot of free kicks, but without the yellow cards. In fact I don't recall a single yellow card. The referee was weak and looked out of his depth to me and, whilst I couldn't be certain as I was on the opposite side of the goal, that looked a stonewall penalty in the first half when Figueira went down. If it was a dive it was a very convincing one, but he wasn't booked for simulation, he didn't just fall over, and the defender made a definite challenge without getting close to the ball so it wasn't a "coming together".

Attendance was worryingly low, as well. Where the fuckery was everyone? I know the trains were buggered, but I don't think that accounts for the 4/500 extra people I'd have expected to turn up for a Saturday fixture in August.
Attendances are always lower in August with holidays and the like.

We had 1,096 against Staines on the corresponding weekend at Champion Hill last season. I don't think it's very realistic to expect that many against for a similar sort of fixture when we're playing at Mitcham, even though we're a division higher.

It's disgusting and disgraceful that we have to play elsewhere while our own ground lies dormant. Furthermore it's going to be the most vulnerable or disadvantaged of our supporters who have to miss out on attending our games. The oldest, the youngest, anyone with mobility difficulties or those for whom a few quid extra in travel costs makes the difference in not being able to afford it.

I'm still a bit anxious about the effect it may have on our attendances if we get more matches and results like yesterday. It's inevitable that this league will be more "professional" when there's more money and clubs are bigger, but I'm already getting irritated by the more professional level of spoiling and cheating we've seen so far.

Completely agree with all of this. If yesterday’s game had been at CH I may well have been able to attend but with it being in Mitcham it was just impossible. This will apply to lots of people, as you say, and its impact is disproportionate.

For a lot of those living east of Peckham it must be a real pain in the neck. Then there must be people living close to Champion Hill with other matchday commitments who can spare 2-3 hours or so away from home, but not that hour or two longer involved in getting to Mitcham and back, and there will be those who took their young children to matches at Champion Hill for whom it's just too much hassle taking them to Mitcham. And those children who would have been so excited about seeing the games at Champion Hill are now missing out on being able to enjoy live football on a Saturday afternoon.

I understand there was severe disruption on the Thameslink line yesterday which prevented a significant number of people from attending. The attendance actually looked smaller than on Wednesday even though the official figure was higher, but I understand all season ticket holders are now included in the figures.

After we conceded and Concord parked the bus we were given a lot of free kicks. Most of those free kicks had to be taken again as we took them ‘too quickly’. This allowed Concord to slow down the game and get back into position and because of this we couldn’t play through them, only around them. The ref was not booking the Concord players and because of this they continued to foul our players to slow down the game/ get into position.

My issue is that under these circumstances all free kicks given to us in the second half became an advantage to Concord and not the other way around. You could see the frustration with our players every time the ref called a free kick back to be taken again. Unfortunately we look most dangerous with quick balls played forward behind the defenders rather than from crosses from out wide which is where most of our chances came from late on.

Food for thought.

I thought the referee handled this aspect of the game very poorly. I don't understand why some referees seem to have a problem with taking quick free kicks. It happened several times and was denying us an advantage. On one occasion he motioned that the ball was moving, but it wasn't. On another he made us retake it from about two yards further back even though we'd initially played it square. His whole manner of handling the game just seemed to slow everything down and disrupt our momentum.

I have a season ticket so good to know I counted despite not being there!!

I don’t think that’s the case. All season tickets holders are recorded as they enter, so the announced attendance should pretty much equate to the actual number in the ground.

Fully agree. As an aside though, In terms of attendances, the start of last year was a bit odd.

Our first game was at home on a Saturday (50/50 chance I guess). But then we had Billericay at home on the following Saturday and T&M at home on the August bank holiday.

So our first three gates were 1096, 1688 and 1866. The only time we got above that 1550 average was when we pushed up to 1580 after the 2417 attendance on Non League day - 7/10 - against Needham Market. (I don’t doubt we would have got above that later in the regular season if we had stayed at Champion Hill btw).

The season before (2016/17) we started on a Tuesday - 843 vs Enfield. Then had 845 vs Leiston on the Saturday (4 days later) and 768 on the Saturday after that vs Canvey Island. First 3 games average: 819.

Billericay and Tooting were the two fixtures most likely to attract the biggest attendances on any given date - the title favourites and our only true local derby. Unfortunately they were both played in the month when our attendances are lowest for afternoon games. If we'd had Thurrock and Needham Market (for example) on those dates I doubt we'd have got much more than 1,000 for either.

The league fixed the Billericay game for the second Saturday because they wanted the publicity for their competition of a high profile match with a big attendance early in the season, and as both teams were at home on the opening day one of them had to have consecutive Saturday home games. The figure was more than 1,000 down on the previous season, when it was played in March.

I had my name and season ticket number noted down as I entered through the gate - any reason for that? Have never had that anywhere else.

As for the match I thought that, by and large, we played very well and were certainly good enough to at least get a point, but it's hard to complain when you're not clinical in front of goal. Our general play has been positive and exciting for big periods of the last two games but there's no doubting that our finishing has let us down. I'm not fully on board with the Tomlin criticism as, despite his fitness issues, he brings his strike partner into the game like no one else does and I think it's understandable that Gavin wants him on the pitch. Part of me still thinks we need another striker, though.

Still, I've been encouraged by what I've seen so far and when you consider that we're not yet firing on all cylinders or playing our (probably) strongest XI, I think there are lots of reasons to be positive. When we signed Cook I wasn't sure where he'd fit in, but his energy and enthusiasm have added a whole new dimension to our play, especially when he's moved more centrally. Vose looks like he could be a class act and I'm also keen to see more of Lawrence who looked a real stand-out in pre-season. Kargbo has also been excellent so far this season, and Ming has really taken his opportunity too. Once we have Green, Chambers, Clunis and Carew all available at the same time I think we'll really start to see some strong 90-minute performances.

I think that will be so there can be checks that they're not used twice at the same game...I understand the intention IS to include all season ticket holders in home League attendances, as they were last season.
