Dulwich Hamlet F.A. Cup 2016-17

My Director lives in Bognor and says it's easier than Chichester. Anyhow me and Darryl are doing the coastal walk from Bognor to the ground

Any reason why we wouldn't head straight for the 3 or 4 pubs in Pagham rather than drink in either Bognor or Chichester?

More than me in the brave new I-only-go-to-away-games-and-not-even-very-many-of-them world.
Ha, no:
"Joe K's going to the game"
"Is he? Sweeeeeet, let's go!"

"Macca's going to Chichester"
"Cool. Sorry, Paul McCartney or Dean McDonald?"
"No, that scowling twat who's only got one pair of trainers"
"Ah right, i'm probably going to Bognor actually"

because pagham play in bognor .
are the local constabulary going to be happy having us and the guildford hordes in town on the same day ?

I can recommend a pub in Bognor other than Weatherspoons, Macca will back me up.

I'm going via Bognor - it's a bit cheaper than the Chichester route.

London to Bognor Regis trains | Loco2
London to Chichester trains | Loco2

Bus from Bognor appears to be £4.70 return, from Chichester it's £6.80 (via Tickets )
bus timetable link (the one above doesn't seem to work) 600 - Elmer - Bognor Regis - Chichester – Bus Times
If you add the 'Plus Bus' Option when buying your train ticket it's £2 for unlimited travel on local buses in either Bognor or Chichester.

I'd thought about doing that on the way there, then returning via Chichester.

Personally I'll be drinking in Pagham before the game, then Chichester on the way back.

I'm sure some people already have cheap pairs of single tickets booked for specific trains, but if not it's a lot cheaper to book a super off peak day return in advance from Bognor/Chichester to your local station than to buy the same ticket from (in my case) from Sydenham to Bognor/Chichester - £11.90 instead of £17.40 with a Network Card discount. I've read all the ticket restrictions info on the Southern website and can find nothing saying you're not allowed to do this, using the return portion of the ticket for the outward journey and vice versa. Bloody outrageous that Londoners have to subsidise cheap train fares for people out in the sticks.

Nice one Richard. I never think to do this.

Unfortunately there is a requirement to use the outward portion before the return, in the National Rail Conditions of Carriage, which apply to all tickets (hence why it is not specifically mentioned on the Southern website, it will be covered by a statement like "all tickets are issued in accordance with the National Rail Conditions of Carriage"):
17. Using a return ticket
A return ticket (including a two-part return ticket) is only valid for the outward journey shown on that ticket if the ticket is completely unused. You may not use the outward part of a return ticket after you have used the return part.

I cannot think of any rational reason for the fare differential being applied to off peak tickets, but it seems only to apply on Southern (although your experience on that point will be more recent than mine as it is a while since I have been in London).

Guess who's now not coming to Pagham because they realised that a stag do they thought was the following weekend was actually this weekend? Oh yes, that'd be me.

Unfortunately, the plusbus is not valid from Chichester to Pagham, but is valid from Bognor to Pagham
Those links don't work for me, but I've found other links which suggest that, indeed, the Chichester PlusBus ticket covers everywhere around Chichester except the portion I need to travel to:

whereas the Bognor Regis Plus Bus zone just about stretches to Pagham:

Question being is how would they know whether you're made use of one portion before the other?

Tickets usually have the time at which they were printed in small type across the bottom, so if you've bought it immediately before travelling it will be obvious to anyone looking closely that you won't have had time to use the first portion before making the 'return' journey. However, if you've bought them the previous day then as long as you're not travelling so early that you couldn't have reached London from the south coast before travelling I don't see how they can prove you've reversed your tickets, given that the ticket has separate portions for each leg of the journey.

(I've just searched for a couple of random journeys to the coast using other train operators: London to Bournemouth on South West trains is fractionally cheaper if buying from Bournemouth rather than London (less than two quid on a day return costing £50+) and London to Margate on Southeastern is the same from either starting point. These Southern Trains fares aren't just a few pence cheaper from the coast, there's a saving of around 30%, or over a fiver with a Network Card and eight quid without one. Scandalous!

And for our Club for agreeing to it....we could have insisted on our prices, I believe.

As I understand it the away club in a cup tie can object to the home team reducing their regular prices, not insist they charge their own prices. Assuming they normally charge £6 I don't think we could object.

The standard FA phrase is mutually agreement though intrigued the FA set a minimum at each round though not a maximum

For those getting the 600 bus from Chichester, looks like the closest stop to the ground is The Lamb Inn, Nyetimber. Couple of minutes from the ground. Alternatively, the stop before is The Bear Inn (pleasing theme to these bus stop names) and is a slightly longer walk. There's a third pub, The Lion, near the ground as well. First two look quite gastro with The Lion seeming to be more traditional.
I'm boring myself now to be honest.
