Duffy

I've got that one and to be perfectly honest, it got stuck back on the shelf after a couple of listens. I/we got bored of it very quickly. :( It was replaced in the car by Girls Aloud iirc. :D

well i certainly dont want you sitting there listening to stuff you dont think is really good! :o

get Back to Black moomoo - have you gotten it - please tell me you have it - Amy Winehouse's latest?

:)

That's the one I said I got bored of quickly. :D

i not seen any PR for duffy.
i know of her from someone's recommendation.
i did a download and that was it.

:D

that and my colleagues them keep playing her tracks every single friggin' day in the office.
it irritates me big time.

it would irritate me lots. i have really tried with this Duffy singer. I have given her a chance and tried hard and she just doesnt have the magic others do. She does not do it for me. Which is feeling. all the greats have it and yes amy winehousr has it, and so does pete. i demand that standard and its a really really high standard with anyone i listen to/ read.

shame on you!!!!

Oh come on Cheesy, even you have to admit that she is a bit revolting to look at!

It's a real shame because she scrubs up quite well. :(

Anyway, thankfully we all like different music otherwise it would be very boring only listening to the same CD day in and day out.

i think duffy looks goregeous.

but i have high standards on musicians that really reach out to me, and i want them to reach into my heart and shake me. she just doesnt.

moomoo, i have tried hard to like her, and i would tell you if i thought she reached me. she doesnt though.

*others do though

i think the summary of what cheeseypoof is saying

she tried to like duffy
duffy didn't reach her or impress her
she needs someone to reach or impress her
amy winehouse and 'pete' reach her
duffy doesn't reach her
some people do reach her though
not duffy though

I love Duffys Distant dreamer as a big fan of Bernard Butler of ex Suede and McAlmont and Butler and Phil Spectre / Roy Wood type wall of sound stuff , I think its one of his best 60s wall of sound type songs / productions to date ... great and imho best track shes done to date...I dont quite like the non bernard Butler ones so much.

and the McAlmont and Butler version.....:)

and a rare version with Bernard Butler on guitar live......

I do find her a little screechy on some tracks but shes got a long time to improve on that , the album took 4 years to make since she won the Welsh version of xfactor so someone believes shes worth investing in and therefore I think theres longterm plans for her .

Hope she sticks with Bernard for a bit longer though , hes always been great with sixties style stuff

Fair enough.

I don't want anyone to reach into my heart and shake me, just to entertain me during car journeys and while I'm doing the housework. :)

She's utter cack....retro toss dressed in a PR friendly package. She does seem to have a nice voice but it's hardly outstanding. It lacks a certain something...I don't want to call it soul exactly but her voice doesn't have the same effect as say MAry J Blige or even Amy Winehouse.

She's alright, a bit shrill, but that chav rap bit on Mercy really fucking grates. Estelle isn't too impressed with her it seems...

Estelle didn't mention Amy Winehouse along with Duffy and Adele.

is Winehouse' music considered to be reputable soul? or not soul at all?

edit: i like Rockferry. and liked Duffy when i saw her interviewed. haven't heard the album though.

I have a big problem with Winehouse's sudden change of voice from the first album to the second but she seems to be considered more 'real'

Why?

Any number of artists voices have changed, especially if their first album was released when they were as young as Winehouse was.

Seems a fucking weird thing to have a problem with...

Presumably you'd have been shouting "Judas" from the stalls when Dylan went electric too?

Nope....I thought he was better electric :D I just had a problem with the whole sound and image - even if it wasn't, it seemed a tad forced.

Her Mercy tune really fucks me off. Its the same line OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER......

We're not that stupid you know, its been a few years since the 60's but we know when you are ripping a style off poorly. Get some more verses, limit the number of choruses and stick a bridge in there and you'll be alright love :)
