Dubstep - where should I start?

I don't know a great deal about this, and I'm clearly behind the musical curve, but I'm interested in finding out more. I've been thinking of starting with the Soul Jazz Records compilations 'Box of Dub (1 +2)' - but can anyone here make some suggestions?

:)

I dunno, I love the Box of Dub sets but it's a very narrow version of what dubstep is - the almost digidub end of things.

I'd go for the Dubstep All Stars mixes first instead, you can trace the progress of the whole sound through them

Where can I find them - are they available online eJ?

I've been really enjoying the FabricLive record by Caspa and Rusko, and the Rinse 06 record, by Plastician.

Damn right. Check out Vex'd if you want heavy industrial dubstep.

I saw plastician at glade. i had a stewards wristband so i was right in front of the speaker. my eyebrows actually stood on end every time a bassline kicked in. :D

Thank you for all the pointers - I've downloaded a few bits and will let you know how I get on.

:)

Also worth checking out are Juno's Dubstep section and Boomkat for samples of new releases.

2nd'ed Ramadanman.

Insteresting how the Dubstep scene is intergrating with some of the more wonkier electronic music coming out - Flying Lotus has just remixed a Martyn track (win!) and a few of the latest Hyperdub 12's are just out there. Love the Ikonika record.

I've looked at Boomkat - but I feel that there is a lack of discrimination in their reviews - everything is 'awesome', 'life enhancing', or a 'standout release' which I 'must absolutely hear'.

Doesn't exactly inspire hope.

Thanks for the info though Scruff, very much appreciated.

:)

ive been slowly getting into it, as i have with drum and bass for the past few years.

there are some good podcasts around, rinse fm, they have a good one for all you skream fans,

saw benga and skream in marseille, france about a month ago, foreign beggars mc'd which was ace. friday night saw another foreign beggars set, all sorts of styles, including some dubstep played so check them too even though they are hip-hop. later in eve saw digitalmistkz which was good too. He did one of the fat freddys drop remixes a year ago or so.
