Dublin. A fine city with lots of interesting things to see and do.

I just spent 2 nights in Dublin on a work trip.

Aside from the business angle - some very stimulating training in the field of Irish Health, Safety and Welfare legislation - there was much to commend the city.

Have any other Urbanites visited this attractive and elegant place recently?

I fucking hate Dublin. Horrible, creepy, superficial place. Vile. Full of utter cunts (and idiots on stag/hen doos). Nothing whatsoever going for it apart from Di Fontaines pizza slices and the arts centre is a great live music venue.

I spent my formative years there and a few years ago spent regular weekends there as I was going out with a Macedonian girl who moved there. the way she was treated and insulted by ugly shitbags made me psychotic.

and the way she accepted it was truly heartbreaking. :(

For fucks sake Dublin isn't just a couple of square miles on the left bank of liffey. You leave temple bar and theres all this other stuff.

Belfast's a shithole - my mums from there - reminds me of a grim Liverpool. (If there's such a thing). Belfast - where the people are singing, Belfast where the people are living etc etc the people, oh the people believe in :D (Boney M).

The reunification of the country by consent will require major symbolic concessions (and real concessions as well). Shifting the capital to Belfast would be a signal to the Northern Protestant tradition that they are not, in fact, to be recipients of a taste of their own medicine, now that they are a minority within the national territory.

Lived out there for about 7 months last year. Cant say it was the most amazing place in the world , got very bored 3 months into living there.

And bloody expensive!!!

YEA!!! fuck! i'd forgotten about that. most expensive fucking place on the planet. that's another reason to give it a swerve.

Good for live music.
Used to be, hasn't been so for a long time, all the good small venues were destroyed. I saw Chico's old band play in one of the last remaining decent places as it happens.

I was in a bar in Bologna a couple of weeks ago and some bloke was telling me he wanted to visit Dublin. I just said don't do it, go to Cork or Galway instead. Thankfully the amount of random swivel eyed wankers I run into braying about their apartment, sorry, investment, in Bulgaria or Krakow or whererever the fuck has diminished markedly.

was that the 'Paradise garage' ? Great gig as i remember. happy to send you the film of it is you PM me.

the other thing that sticks in my mind was that one of the bouncers who was standing at the front of the atage facing the crowd was without doubt thee most evil, scary, hard looking guy I have ever seen in my whole life. Chinese looking bruiser...Ring any bells?

I love Lisbon. Been for loads of holidays in Portugal, even before I joined the band, but Coimbra, where they're from is one of the most beautiful places I think i have ever seen.

a million times nicer than bloody Dublin for a start!

Dublin is full of tossers who think sophistication is comparing their blackberries and being seen in all the right places.

Better go to the West of Ireland.

I heard of a Dublin couple who spent 60,000 euro on an apartment in Bulgaria . . . sixty thousand quid they couldn't really afford.

They went over later to check out their investment. Just as they were about to put their key in the front door, it was opened by a Bulgarian bloke on the other side.

He was wearing a pair of trousers, a string vest, and a gun in a holster under his arm.

'Excuse me, but we own this flat', said the male part of this couple.

'No you don't', said the Bulgarian, as he put his hand on the butt of his gun. 'Now fuck off'.

IME Dublin is an expensive kip...
you always need your wits about you dandering about that place,,
Drugs are still rife their n the price of life means feck all to the drug gangs about there.. heaps of killings recently..
When u stop looking up at the architecture and look about the streets proper, there is poverty everywhere..
A corrupt stinkin hole imo...

Plenty of 'better' places to be in like Galway or Belfast... But i suppose its grand for a flyin visit...

Funny seeing people say the capital should be Belfast when its not even in the same fucking country.

What do you mean nonsense? Its a fact!

Its not governed by republic, has international borders, uses pound sterling and is officially defined as being part of the UK. How does that qualify it as being part of the Republic of Ireland?

Clearly there has been some sort of terrible mistake to be sure.

Noticed that the last few times Ive gone back to Ireland for a few days, dont hear fuck all about the 2nd appartment in E Europe,do hear a lot of whinging about E.Europeans working over here.I usually get some gobshite telling me they should all fuck off back to Poland or whereever now that the Celtic Tiger has shuffled off the mortal coil,I tend to point out that since these countries are in the EEC their citizens have every right to be here.
