dualit

My first Dualit kettle lasted for about 15 years (and it's still working now, although needs some repair) I was given another one for Christmas though, so I'll probably never get around to it :D

I've got a Dualit coffee grinder which is ace.

No Dualit toaster though :(

Kitchen porn indeed

OMG is there actually a marmite branded one? WANT.

Lovely innit! I'd want a 4 slice version though!:o

ive had one for years. does the job and looks nice.

Ponce! :D

I want a toaster that pops up when the toast is ready. I don't want have to have to guess how long it's going to take and set the timer accordingly. Fucking crap.

I've got a dualit toaster by the way

typical urban, I ask about a toaster and get called a wanker.
Yeah, I mean it's a new one on me, owning and using a toaster being indicative of being part of the contempt-worthy bourgeosie...

*intends to dispose of toaster forthwith and rejoin the proletariat struggle*

But i like the fact you have to set the timer. It means that i don't get underdone/overdone toast because someone has changed the setting and i haven't noticed. I also like that I can decide to only have heating for one slice if that's all I'm doing.

Overpriced , overrated and not that great at the actual business of toasting things. They've done pretty badly in consumer tests, particularly the Which one iirc, being outperformed (in speed and consistent toasting/tasting tests particularly) by a number of £20ish models

But the traditional models are bombproof, feel and look lovely. Bit of a design classic, although they really aren't worth the premium if it's only perfect toast you're after. ,

^What he said. I suspect the newer ones are a bit crap, but when I bought mine you could only buy them from caterers' suppliers, and it's pretty robust.

They've got some coloured enamel ones in Waitrose atm, sort of mini retro looking ones in pale yellow or light blue. Tempted :o

I've had a Dualit toaster for years and wouldn't want any other brand. I don't think you can say they are overpriced when you consider how long they last and that you can easily buy and fit replacement elements.

Yeah, but for the price of a Dualit you can buy around 10 basic cheapie toasters. Enough to last you for ages. And by the time you have got through two cheap ones, either they will have got even cheaper, or they will have invented some new kind of atomic toaster or something, and then your old Dualit will by OBSOLETE.

Like non-flat screen TVs. That you keep seeing on the pavement, in perfect working order, just because their owners have bought plasma.

Giles..

Well, the missus vetoed it and we got a kenwood toaster and kettle set for £40.

I twisted her arm and got the dualit handheld blender, so not all lost.

Bombproof and fully serviceable, but still not worth £150. As someone else already pointed out - you can get 10 cheap-assed toasters for that. And all it does is make toast!

i have a tefal thick and thin toaster. i've had it for about 10 years. i think that dualit is overpriced trendy shite, just like kitchenaid.

The Dualit in our office has partly broken after 3 weeks use. Fiddly fucker to use, too.

They must have really changed the design, then, cos there's nothing fiddly about the original ones, nor is there anything to break

Confused me too

I see them in caffs all the time - ultimate robust straightforward toaster. Fiddly & unreliable isn't something that "pro" owners go for.

I have a three slice dualit toaster, because I like three slices of toast :p

Except at the moment, where I make three and only eat one  Seem to be going off food...

Anyway, have had it eight years, and it's never let me down. Of course it is different to putting bread under the grill, but I always forget putting bread under the grill, so end up charcoalling it.

Don't know about Dualit blenders, but I'd be wary - their brand extensions have been a bit crap. Even the new Dualit toasters are rubbish compared to the classic models.

Waring blenders for the win ime - good strong motors and tough glass jugs that crunch through ice and whatever your throw at them.

***Big old bump

How's the blender mattie?
I am in the market for a new blender and I like the look of this one very much, is it good?

Pretty damn good, we got the added bits - whisk, mixer and blender box thing - and it's been most useful. I suspect it may be undersized for some - I wouldn't fancy making soup on a regular basis with it - but for occasionally blending sauces, whisking things etc. it's been fine.

eta: This is what we got, in case there's any confusion:

I had a Dualit for ten years - several fires in it but it STILL worked. Aren't they made in London? Would explain the price somewhat...

I've given it to El Jugs brother, boat electrics and things such as toasters, irons or hairdryers should not be mixed.

I have a Bamix handblender. <derails further> http://www.bamix-blender.co.uk/ It rocks......
