Drying chillies

I've got a couple of dozen nice fresh red and green chillies (they were reduced to next-to-nothing at the stupourmarket the other day) and I have this vague idea that if I string them up on some thread they'll look pretty, gradually air-dry and stay usable all winter.

Am I right?

Yes, I do this every year. Thread a needle and do the stalks, not the fruit, to reduce the possibility of mouldiness.

edited to add.
I've only done this with ripe red chillies.

Ordinary thread. Last year I bought masses of little red bird chillies and made loads of chilli garlands as presents for friends.
