This whole shit/not shit thing doesn't work when it comes to genres. It's all relative.
For a start, there is shit DnB and not shit DnB. Same goes for every style of music.

Secondly, even if you just take genres as a whole, you have to say: Shit/not shit compared to what? DnB is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT compared to Pop-punk, Psytrance, Emo, RnB/"Urban", Christian Rock, Reggaeton, Minimalism, Acid Jazz, Uk Garage/Grime, Happy Hardcore, Funky House, infact, pretty much all house 'cept ACID HOUSE.

However, DnB isnt the shining beacon of brilliance it once seemed to be when compared to: Old skool Jungle, Breakcore, Ambient Techno, whatever else I make up.

but dub is essentially drum + bass
Why is it that I love drum and bass; it makes me want to dance while dub bores me and makes me want to sleep then?

Dub - Bass heavy, usually vocalless reggae.
DnB - The amen break or similar at 160-180bpm with heavy bass and cool SFX and samples and shit. The only relation is Ragga really, which was at some point I'm told Dub at double speed.

The only Drum n Bass act I like is Pendulum, the rest IMHO I think is awful with only a few exceptions.....

Sorry DNB heads.........
you are EVIL EVIL EVIL, EVERYTHING THAT I DESPISE :mad:

:p - seriously though, now pendulum have got you into dnb expand your horizons! Big name dnb dj's play stuff like pendulums tunes all the time!

I LOVE dnb, its amazing loike, but ive been getting into the harder side of dnb (Noisia, Raiden, Evol intent, Spor, most things on Renegade Hardware etc.) and the deeper side (teebee, loxy & ink) much more than the standard jump up which i find quite tedious now!

Honestly, download some noisia, go on go on go on go on!

a link to some mixes you can download that i put in the mix thread :)

That's how good it is right now and not just d n b IMO. There is seriousy brilliant new music being made left right and centre and I fuckin love all of it me. It's fuckin excellent

but dub is essentially drum + bass

as are certain other styles of music e.g. types of african music

as it mainly consists of drums and bass

wtf?

all those mentioned styles of music precede the origins of drum and bass by between fifteen and several thousand years.

mainly consists of drums and bass

err... so all electronic/ dance music, then?

soz. its just that im listening to drum and bass and despite my efforts to get into other kinds of music such as hiphop, dub, reggae, folk, jazz, classical, whatever other types of music there are ive listened to with an open mind, but my heart lies with dnb... seriously my heart weeps when i hear good dnb :( *cries*

I get that too... just want to immerse myself in it, but then I remember the guitar.. and how I love to hear a wall of guitar screaming at me. but i like bass so loud it makes me shit.

oh the dilemma

and yeah, you're quite right. dub is dnb, even i know that and am crap :D

got Enduser - Calling the Vultures today. its sick

probably not for this thread, but who cares.

not me!

Hardly seems innovative anymore, grime/dubstep whatever you want to call it seems the way forward to me.
