No thanks.

I'm interested to know on what grounds you object to the police being taken off pointless searching for cannabis possession, in order to focus on things like burglary and muggings, which are key concerns of residents in Brixton?

I've yet to find anyone - even my Daily Mail reading neighbour - who would rather the police went after a few recreational pot users, than chasing real criminals.

Those links timothysutton posted about the 'council paying drug dealers' have been shown to be journalistic rhetoric. It's not the real story. Seriously, read Paddick's biography and the other reports about the 'experiment' to really find out.

Brian's book is available in all the libraries in Lambeth. :)

To be fair, Brixton Tube area isn't about recreational drug users though is it, it's to get rid of everyone saying 'weed, skunk, pills' every 10 yards...

Or are you a fan of so called drug tourists? ;)

yeah that's a fair point - i do object to crack dealers etc on my road and I've complained to the police about it before. But the police are massively under-resourced to deal with it. According to a drugs squad officer I talked to a few years ago, uniformed coppers aren't allowed to get involved in drugs stuff on the streets - that's left to CID/the drugs squad. And they don't appear to have the manpower to deal with it - they have to focus on the serious stuff like closing crack houses etc. And many of the 'weed, skunk, pills' dealers dont actually carry anything on them.

So I repeat: going after people coming out of the tube, who are possibly going to be recreational pot users, does nothing to reduce 'crime' in Brixton.

The tube/bus stop dealers are a pain, but is this the way to get rid of them?.
This tactic won't get rid of the dealers,it could well ruin recreational smokers lives.

It's a detterent at least.

Recreational smokers don't really need to be trekking around London at rush hour with their weed on them do they?? Just leave it at home?

The dogs are always around rush hour anyway.

However, I don't think that is the main point. I assume the main reason for the dogs is as a highly visible deterrent to drug tourists and dealers.

If that works, I'm all for it.

Absolutely.

KFC Corner was notably quieter last night than it usually is of an evening when I went past on a bus about 6pm.

Why are threads like this considered acceptable, yet when I've mentioned noticing bus revenue inspectors out doing their job and catching faredodgers, I get shouted down?

Break the law, suffer the consequences. End of story.

Because this is Urban75. Most of the posters are cunts and prefer to have a pop at someone because other posters do, rather than actually think for themselves.

Who was playing at the Academy yesterday? The dogs might have been there for the benefit of the audience. The vibe outside the tube is often very un-Brixton when the Academy punters are arriving. Sometimes they're hilarious (like all the teenage Pete Docherty-alikes with their cunty little hats) and sometimes they're just rude and pushy. I don't know who was playing a couple of nights ago but they attracted some very odious white trash yoofs who were hassling the Sainsbury's staff and gobbing everywhere.

This was from about 3pm which is a bit early for a gig.
As for the yoofs,it sounds like a spliff might well mellow them out a bit.

I stood at the bus stop near KFC last night, as the police and dogs stopped and searched random people only a few feet away.....and a guy standing next to me was very obviously muttering skunk and signalling to his mate up the road when he got a buyer.

I agree with Brixton hatter - the dealers outside KFC often don't carry anything - they are all too aware of this type of police swoop. Its recreational smokers who will get caught out on their way home, which is a complete waste of police time in my opinion.

Many of the dealers only have bags of oregano or stock cubes on them.

BTW hello Lizard Queen, haven't seen you for ages. :)
