"Dress down to fool G20 rioters, bank staff told in City" - Evening Standard

So up for it were they that a handful of couldn't really give a fuck security managed to keep them in.

Well, Security at that place was always pretty tight, certainly they wern't the usual minimum-wage lot as there was a always lot of testosterone wafting around the place iyswim.

Iirc (and its a few years ago now) the majority of the Security were manning the front doors with another phalnyx at the top of the escalators (on the right hand side as you walked in, entrance to the floor was up the escalators and through some security gates. As a matter of record, the £50 notes were thrown from the bog windows, GFI's 2nd floor photocopier was used for the copying).

In that case protesters should 'dress up' and wear suits which will have the comic result that city types will be kettled by police and protesters escorted into city buildings.

Where we'll be only too happy to toddle on up to the top floor and make ourselves known to the bankers and bosses...

I like your thinking on this one.

I like that idea. There could be a 'pin-stripe bloc'. A tightly rolled umbrella and a hard cased briefcase might prove to be useful for self-defence.

Yes, that Tabitha girl could ask Daddy to borrow his briefcase for the day. And get a lift in with him in his Roller... :D

It better be good weather next week as it looks like I might be able to "work from home" due to disturbances in the City... :D

Is that a regular umbrella, or a special 'Georgi Markov' model?

And perhaps we could make some 'Oddjob'-style lethal bowler hats as well?

And maybe even some of thos 'Rosa Klebb'-style shoes with the poisoned dagger in the tips?

*Awaits banner headlines in 'Evening Bogstandard' pushing the idea of 'Masked, Baby-Eating Anarchists Armed By Q-Branch Set To Descend Upon The City' with interest*

My copy of the protestors instructions for the day says "If wet it takes place in the Scout hut".

My company's taking no chances:

Dear All,

1 April 2009 will see protest activity as part of the G20 Event. In this regard I will arrange extra security to accompany ***** on reception.

The entry doors will remain closed throughout the day and all staff should be reminded to have their access pass on them to gain access or suitable identification.

Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

I think I may be able to get away with saying they've barricaded Waterloo and I can't get in. My MD also comes in via Waterloo, but she's a bit thick.

In anticipation of next week's protests, a quote from the Evening Standard....

-"As someone who works in a city bank, I do not class myself as a banker. Bonuses this year met my zero expectations. I'm skint, frustrated like everyone, though do what I can. People can protest, and rightfully so. However, if someone decides that they will get out of bed before lunchtime to come looking for a fight, then I'll be the 17st guy in a suit. I'm nails."

Sounds like it could be either STFC or Kanda, untethered or Cobbles would their valet strike the protester roughly..

Er . . . that was a reaction by the guys on the old LIFFE floor who were well up for a ruck and prevented from leaving the building by security. 1500 LIFFE floor traders vs a couple of hundred protesters . . . hmmmm . . . know who my money would have been on (cf the Greenpeace guys who "stormed" the IPE a few years back and got the shit kicked out of them)
a couple of hundred protestors?

well over 5000 minimum on that one, don't forget we'd taken the streets for several blocks around the LIFFE, and had originally split into 4 groups to get to the LIFFE via different directions, so you'd only have been seeing a relatively small percentage of the actual numbers.

I don't work for a bank, nor in the City :)

I wonder if that fellow with a green dyed beard is going to be there shouting "peaceful protest" as the horses charge!

Is there speculation that drug-crazed rioters will team up with terrorists for whom a bio-chemical weapon is now 'a more realistic possibility' than it was before the latest government terrorism report came out a few days before these G20 protests, hmmmm?:hmm:
