Dreams

I once dreamt that my friend Olly picked me up and swung me over his shoulders, I was protesting the whole time that he would hurt himself as although he is a big man I am also a big woman...any way when I woke up the next morning I was in agony around my rib cage, was painful to breathe and walk so much that I went to see my osteopath who confirmed I had bruised tender ribs. -Weird

Indeed. Daniel Dennet brings out some kind of fiery hatred in me.

:D
I don't mind him so much. I find far too entertaining to dislike the man.

When he says that a sufficiently detailed account of neurophysiology would enabled the fabled achromatic (colour-blind) neurologist to understand everything there is to know about a neurologically typical human's experience of colour* he's so obviously wrong he has to be trolling.

But it's infuriatingly difficult to pin down exactly where his argument fails. Philosophy at it's best! :D

* this is of course to paraphrase Dennett, but I think I've got the nub of his position

Apparently, it is impossible to use a light switch in a dream.
As SpookyFrank says, no-one can ever substantiate this; but of course a single counter example debunks the idea.

I've used light switches in a dream; I'm sure other readers have as well. Come to that, I'm sure folks turn on lights while sleepwalking (sleepwalking is often accomonanied by dreaming a distorted version of the real world through which one is navigating).

I heard it on a Batman cartoon.

i dont remember it mentioning light switches

unless there are 2 batman cartoons involving dreaming

I have lots of unconsummated dreams - sex, but also food - a luscious feast is laid out, I sniff it, anticipate it but (like a Bunuel film) never get round to actually tucking in. (that came out sounding a bit unintentionally perverse :o :D )
Anyway I have a theory that your dreams tip yo.u off to your actual desires and anxieties, and if you actually experience the satisfaction of fufilling them, you wouldn't need to act on them in real life.
