Dreads?

My hair was so curly and tangly and unmanageable before I got dreads that I couldn't do anything with it. Getting dreads actually meant my hair became a bit closer to 'normal'. No plans to cut them off any time soon.

Same with me, dreads actually look neater on me than the 'normal' unpredictable craziness I get if I let it grow at all. Keeping it fairly short with clippers looks ok but a bit boring, and I can't be arsed having to cut it or get it cut that often.

I only got rid before because I was going through a bit of a crisis and felt the need to make a drastic change! Things are way more settled now though so it seemed like a good time to start over... This time however I'm encouraging it to knot up as it grows whereas last time it was already shoulder-length before I started the dreads.

I've actually redone mine too. The first time I put them in I used wax, which they tell you keeps your hair 'healthy', helps it 'lock up' and will just 'wash out'. Well, that it all bollocks. Three years later I still had that wax in my hair, even though they had grown and I'd cut it beyond the point I'd even put wax in. That wax just keep travelling up towards your head, you know. Then six months ago, when my hair was smelling old and musty and hadn't even dreaded up properly anyway, I took each dread out one by one (83 in total), cleaned it well, then put them back in again without any wax. They're just so much better now and I've had no problem with it locking.

I do sometimes have itchy scalp problem though (which I had before dreads too so no surprise really). The best thing is probably just not to scratch but I'm really bad at that :D

I hate the look of unmanaged dreads that look like kippers! My friend regularly goes and gets them washed?steamed and twisted and it makes all the difference.

I've wanted dreads on and off for years... but my kids who has hair just like mine is the biggest nit magnet going. I have to comb her regularly as she seems to attract them, yet my other child has never had them.

So I know I will get a nasty case of nits and having moving hair or shave the lot off. Hence my current short style!
I'd say go for it, I love dreads.
