Dreadful covers from bands who really should have known better

you do realise that only total fucknuckles ever say 'end of'? :p

you are wrong about this too. it is scientifically proven that the use of 'end of' is the most powerful argument winning tool in the philosopher's handbook.

except "feighnites".

Fatima Mansions rocked!

Only losers take the bus was great as was on the day I lost everything but I'm not sure I like much else (though did buy evil man).

I thought Coogan was great, even in shit arse microdisney. I still have the snub video of them doing OLTTB.

Coughlan.

And he was a great guy - Fatima Mansions often lacked the songs but had some fantastic moments across the LPs.. you have to find the Shiny Happy People track, it's aces ("rimmo rammo felcho fisto - Shiny Happy People having fun")

What's good about that Futureheads thing? Iirc, it's a note for note version that adds nothing and takes away quite a bit from the original.

Eh? As covers go it's pretty fucking different to the original. Another vote in favour here.

Rod Stewart, on the other hand, can stick his futile Downtown Train up his hole.

David Bowie doing Waterloo Sunset. OK, so he's not a band, but he definitely should have known better.

don't remember the name, but some dreadful indie band murdered Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love a couple of years ago. The bit that makes you cringe and duck the most are the ooh ooh bits in the chorus. Just jaw-droppingly bad.

yes, the chorus made me cringe: it sounded like they'd got the proclaimers and then beaten them around the head with sticks and then forced them to do the ooh uuh ooh bits...

Er...that's a good thing, surely?

heh... for some reason i've seen the futureheads loads of times, and although i think they're a fine live band, they've always bought to mind the proclaimers doing clash covers... :D

Primal Scream and someone called Kate Moss massacred Some Velvet Morning.
seem to remember the first version was good, but then they rerecorded it for the hits compilation - that one really was shit.

chris cornell's cover of billie jean.

i mean, chris has hardly covered himself in glory since soundgarden split up, his solo stuff being AOR dullness and audioslave having one good song, but ye gods, the shitness of that cover takes some beating.
I think it's brilliant along with his solo stuff too.

Audioslave only did one good song though IMHO.

i'm listening right now to rob zombie covering blitzkreig bop. now while mr zombie's solo stuff sucks warm sick through a short straw white zombie were great and thus i nominate this absolute abomination. it's fucking awful.

I have no idea who it was, or whether she should know better or not, but I heard the most inane cover of...

...wait for it...

Fucking Abba's Super Trouper!

Done by a girl with a guitar.

Fuck me, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull, dull.

I wanted to gouge my ears out.

Or, more correctly, her tongue.

I am now boycotting Virgin as a result. No loss, they never have anything I want to buy anyway.

Hows about
Wherever I Lay My Hat
Love Of The Common People
Love Will Tear Us Apart

All ruined by Paul Young

Indeed. Bewilderingly sucessful though.

I also think the futureheads veriosn of hounds of love was ace.

As for thus far un-mentioned shit covers -

Guns'n'Roses - Sympathy for the Devil - very hard to do a bad verison of this, but they managed it.

Guns'n'Roses - knocking on heavens door. Perinial pub rock standard cos it piss to play. Yet G'n'Rs still manage to murder it more than anyone else has done.

And some nameless boy band who did an unspeakably bad verison of the who's behind blue eyes.
