Dr Who....

(Spoiler Alert)

I watched last night's and I thought it was tosh.

- When Maureen Lipman did the face suck on the doctor, the copper and the kid, why did only the rozzer end up blank faced?

- During said incident why was Maureen Lipman so frightened of the Doc's sonic screwdriver? Wouldn't it have appeared to her, as it does to me, a silver stick thing with Bluetooth?

- Why did Muswell Hill not look like Muswell Hill? It looked like Bounds Green.

- How come the kid knew to replace the right valve? And why didn't the Doctor say thankyou?

- How come Maureen Lipman managed to intimidate the electrician into being her minion? You had only to leave the room with the telly in, inorder to be safe from her.

- It was the fifties, but nobody offered anyone a cup of tea.

- Why does the Doctor shout? He needn't shout, he's the Doctor.

- No Daleks.

The doctor stopped her before she could gobble them all up.

The sonic screwdriver has an anti-sucking inhibitor built in, also known as a wedding.

Thought like some others this one was a bit short on plot. It was fairly obvious what was happening in the first few minutes and the twatty dad character took most of the spotlight thereafter.

I officially like Tennent more than Eccleston now.

Wish they'd move away from 21st/20c more.

Otherwise no complaints worth chewing about really.

Mark Gatiss (League of Gents) wrote that last one I noticed.

Last night's episode "The Idiot's Lantern", two things I spotted, wrong type of aerial on roof, in among the H & X VHF type of the period I am sure I saw modern UHF yagis of today. In the street party scene at end, lots of people about but absolutely no one smoking, history will never be the same again.

I noticed that as well. I'm sure I caught sight of the back of a UHF yagi. I didn't think that they were entirely accurate with the Ally Pally antenna either. When they were climbing up the tower it looked like the new UHF antenna but when they were on the tower you caught a glimpse of a Band I TV TX antenna.

<gets anorak>

Yeah, I said I'd like a bit more adventures in deep space whilst watching this one.

I'm the reverse- I think they haven't ventured far enough back in time yet. I'd really like to see what a medieval or Roman episode would look like with modern special efects.

strangly I am finding myself liking this doctor less and less. which is weird as hes actually quite good

maybe its the anger thing, to me this seems a bit out of character with the Character hes representing. Other doctors have gotten angry but hes just so in your face with it all...

though if my entire race had been wiped out in a time war I am guesing I would be a bit pissed off too.

In the Crimble episode where Tennant spent most of it in his stripey jimjams he did do a bit of a spiel about having had enough of being merciful.

perhaps that was a signal about his behaviour in all episodes, not just that one?

Will no one comment on the spoiler I posted?* I'm feeling most unloved :( :p

*however photoshopped it looks

thank you. i offer you my belated love.

i don't like tennant as much as ecclestone: he's a little too whiny for my liking, plus he moves into "shouty" mode too often: i feel it should be reserved for important occassions, not for some old bloke for the fifties who is a bit of a bully.

eccleston had the right blend of world weariness, and mental-ness. Plus he alsways seemed calm and collected, as if he knew that it would all work out alright in the end: tennant always seems to be in a rush.

Agree completely – there's just something about Tennant that doesn't sit right with me. After Eccleston, he just seems really lightweight. The Doctor/Rose relationship that seemed so fresh and interesting last series is also starting to grate a bit.

Yep, it's true.

Still worth watching though.

Always calm. Yup.
Bit like this?

Jack
Okay, this can function as a sonic blaster, a sonic cannon, and a triple enfolded sonic disruptor. What’ch’you got?

Doctor
I’ve got a sonic… uh… nevermind.

Jack
What?

Doctor
It’s sonic. Okay, let’s leave it at that.

Jack
Disruptor, cannon, What???

Doctor
It’s sonic. Totally sonic. I am soniced up!

Jack
A SONIC WHAT???

Doctor
SCREWDRIVER!

:D

:D

Yeah, then the conversation went something like (from memory):

JACK: Who gets a sonic screwdriver??

DOCTOR: What, you never had to put some shelves up?

Btw I heard that they're remaking the Prisoner with Ecclestone in the lead role. :) :D

I thought tonight's was terrific - one of the two best episodes of a slightly disappointing series two thus far. Kind of Alien meets Lovecraft meets The Omen.

Excellent one and well timed with the date coming up to 6/6/6. The tentacle-faced thingies are amongst the best LGMs the BBC have ever come up with.
Plus they managed to keep a bit of suspense running through it, it's something that lately they've seemed to lack.

Twas a goodun. The Beast awakes. The Ood getting all red eyed servants of Satan, the Lord and Master, and the mysterious writing traversing across the skin while the woman's body floats off into the void.
