Dr Who....

JKKne said:
Theres a rather heated debate going on at DS, with some ego maniacal Who fans claiming the Cybermen are the greatest thing since sliced bread and that the Borg from ST aren't as scary

Sounds like a Ninjaboy topic...Borg VS Cybermen

Resistance is futile VS Resistance is...er....useless

how British

At least the british can pronounce futile proper like. Fu-tile sounds much better then footle as Data pronounced it in that film..omigod i'm so sad. Eeep!

Yeah but Data was an android so he probably has difficulties.

Then again, Picard was French

*cough*

I thought the episode was a bit slow. I hate it when the characters are miles behind the audience and spend 45 minutes catching up with us.

I thought Tennent would be shite but I'm eating my words. He's really good in the role - better than Eccleston IMO. :)

Didn't you find Eccleston just slightly patronising? A kind of common Daniel Craig?

Tho, must add, both were brilliant in Our Friends In T'North

I guess he was a bit patronizing, still a good Doctor though - remember that he's seen more than most humans, so coming across as patronizing could be considered more realistic ... ;)

No, you're alright thanks. It's weird that other poeple think she shouted dad though isn't it? Perhaps a change to the script?

I thought it was 'Dad' and he took a double take then she grabbed him and said 'quick'

Yeah, I thought so too, but if you compare the performances Tennant carries it off effortlessly

Yeah, I was surprised at how well he fitted into the role. It's unmissable TV at the moment for me.

Never been a huge fan, not a religious watcher, but if its on when I'm having a mo, then I'll watch it.

But still...I can't get over those Cybermen, I assume the BBC spent all its money on other things

They've always been shit. It's the concept that is scary, not the way they look. Not a patch on the daleks in aesthetic fear invoking stakes ever. These cybermen actually look quite butch compared to some of the evolutions.

For me, these are the scariest on a quick refresh of the different versions courtesy of image search

She is lovely, our Billie.

Two things put me off.

She's the ex-wife of Ginger Twat.

And she's got a huge gob.

Just think what she could do for you with that gob !

Nah, the old Cybermen look like gimps in their figure-hugging rubber suits... I like the clunky-clanky new ones. :)

Those things they had on their chests that could be wrecked with gold or acetone were a bit crap too.
New ones are an improvement.

...or radiation, or gravity, or butter, or strong cheese, or a nice Merlot. They were, let's be brutally honest, rubbish.

Shit! Missed tonight's episode, forgot it was on early because of that lame, pathetic, twee, sillybollocks Eurovision sack of stupid shit.

When do they repeat it?

 :(

BBC3 tomorrow night.

Right, won't do a spoiler then but you will have something to look forward to. Thought this episode the best of the series so far, built tension nicely and some surprise developments ... I thought one of the final scenes also tipped its hat to the second xenomorph flic "Aliens".

Shame in a way that Rose's Dad bought the farm the way he did in the '80s, I think his character works really well in an everyblokey way.

Good to see the horror of being represented by cybermen developed too, does anyone think they may have been forerunners of the borg? The borg being without a doubt the best trekkie villains for me.

omgz i was so close, i thought i was the only one and it was down to me coming down from ecstasy and my emotions are in turmoil.

I caught the last emotional scene and that was about all. Looks like I've missed 1 of the best ever. F**k. The repeats on BBC3 are on at 7pm and I can't get to a telly that can view them at that time. Have to wait till it comes out on dvd I suppose.
:(

Saw it tonight on BBC3 .

Thought it was great. Quips and comebacks were thinner on the ground - instead we got some proper chilling and poignant sci fi.

Really dark - not least the wholesale industrial massacre of thousands of people.

And proper scary - the sleeping cybermen coming alive was even scarier cos you knew it was goning to happen.

I too was welling up like a big gay bear at the end. (the drugs comedown obviously)

The terrible fate of the cybermen - humanising the monsters whilst destroying them - was powerful and almost hard to watch. And thats what happened to (this version) of rose's mum as well - quite hardcore for 'kids TV'.

Nice touch with the 'direct action group fighting the evil corporation with headtorches' as well.

What i like about that is that there is a whole raft of dw fan who moan like billyo when something obviously political like slagging of the US president is introduced by RTD but anything slightly more subtle then they miss it completely. Direct Action gets the goods, as they used to say.
