Dr Who Saturday 15th April

definatly had the hiding behind the sofa effect this time :) .after it was over my daughter said she wasent scared . Yeah right.

Wish they'd kept Cassandra in Billie Piper a while longer she was, er, glowing in the part - I'll have to save more sensible comments till back from the pub ;)

Feh, that was rubbish.

Next week looks shit too. Tennant looks cool but this story was rubbish so I can't tell if hes a good doctor or not.

I quite liked it actually, although going by the gist of this last page I am liable to be in the minority :(

Perfectly enjoyable - disease-ridden zombies, weird nun cats and the return of Casandra and the Face Of Boe. Great stuff, although Eccleston is still the man as far as I'm concerned.

I just bought 'Destiny' on DVD to put me back in a who mood. Rare Baker com track! Does anyone else send texts to thier home phone just to have Tom Baker talk to them?

If it wasn't for the trumpet I'd do it all day.

I still remember Ecclestone's mesmerising performance as the depressed skinhead serial killer in Cracker

That was Robert Carlyle and he was great.
I think Ecclestone was in Jimmy McGovern's later Hillsborough drama.

I think he was at his most scary in Shallow Grave. I've never lost my Ecclestone fear since.

Eccleston was in Cracker, but he played DCI Bilborough who got killed by Carlyle's character. I thought he was just terrible as Dr. Who, "lighthearted" is simply beyond his range. That manic grin he put on whenever he tried for comedy was painful. Tennant is an improvement, but I thought tonights episode was a bit pants. The one next week looks more promising.

I agree.

I thought it was rather good, just the right amount of silly, and Tennant for me is a great choice for the Doctor.
Agreed. Some people have to remember that Doctor is primarily a kids show, it's just that adults are allowed to like it as well :D That's why it's ok for it to be a bit naff or cheesey sometimes, thats what makes it so enjoyable and why I love it so much :)

Have to admit though, that chav line made me cringe :o

That sucked. Ridiculously over-emotional, everyone sobbing and weeping and kissing all over the place, heavy-handed moralising using the "weepy violin music and characters emoting every line like a deathbed moment" tactic, Tennant (much like Ecclestone in fact) acting all "not knowing what's going on" and seeming to be on the edge of either tears or euphoria the whole time (which is utterly the opposite of the classic Pertwee/Baker/Davidson era Doctor, whose whole thing was being the wry, knowing, alien character who doesn't need to emote because his intelligence and wit carries the weight)...

This is Doctor Who, not Buffy, Dawson's Creek or some American made-for-daytime-TV film... he needs some mystery, some distance...

Doctors 4,5,6 and 7 were all fucking clowns. It's a load of crap saying the doctor should be mysterious and all knowing, all the time. The doctor acts like an idiotic clown at times... has done ever since the '70s. People who say otherwise either have very poor memories, or haven't watched much Doctor Who imo

You missed out 2, who certainly played the clown. I wouldn't have said 5, though; to me, he played it very seriously, indeed. Not too sure about 6, either. Bit too Geography teacher meets Rotten.com webmaster, methinks.
