dr who easter special

As the Dr Who specials go, this wasn't one of the worst IMO. And I don't think Ryan was bad, certainly as far as the script and her character were concerned.

I wasn't even aware it was going to be on until I saw a trailer on Friday! We thought it was much better than the last few Xmas specials - I think it's because it wasn't trying so hard to outdo itself, IYSWIM.

I couldn't believe how badly they ripped off Pitch black. A three-sunned desert world? and the monsters were basically the same.

Flying bus made it for me though. Was a bit stoned-which always enhances doctor who.

I thought it was crap. I didn't like Michelle Ryan or her character, and although I like Tennant I'm fed up of him kissing people.

And I thought the plot was a bit rubbish. I know it was a special but it didn't seem to fit in at all.

But I did like Lee Evans :)

Don't mention Pitch Black in the same breath though...........

although i have found that repeated watching has made me have funny feelings in my tummy about Vin Diesel

:eek::o

Best special since The XBox Invasion.
All too drawn-out towards the climax though.

We're running away from a horde of pitch-black beasties!
But we've got time to get on the bus and talk a load of shit!
They're hot on our tail!
Let's fly round London while all of 3 beasties make it through!

I'm sure it was a good episode as so many people seem to like the show, but David Tennant always talks so quickly and the music is so loud I can never make out what is supposed to be going on! I dunno, for all the talk you hear about 'hiding behind the sofa', this seems very tame stuff to me. It's like a live action cartoon.

I'm so dissapointed. I thought that was proper shit.Even worse than the last one.

Michelle Ryan was just annoying.

And everything was fixed with magic... again.

I can't wait for Russel to move on. The best episodes of the series were ones which he hadn't written.

Sadly I agree. It was the worst episode I've seen. The acting was atrocious and I wanted to blot Ryan from my screen. Ugh.

Plus, I never thought I'd say this (although it's been a whispy thought in the back of my mind for so long now), but DT's Doctor has just become a characature of himself. So thoroughly over acted. I think it's got worse as the seasons have gone on. Fucking shame.

yeah his performance in Einstien and Eddison puts ott Doc to shame unfortunately. It's time for my fellow NSB graduate to take the role.

have you seen the 'blink' episode?

Yeah that was amazing.

And NOT written by Russel T Davis. It was written by Steven Moffat. can't wait till he writes the next lot as he wrote all the good ones:

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances - The ones with the horrible gas mask "are you my mummy?" thing.

The Girl in the Fireplace - with madame du pompadourand the frikkin awsome live ship

Blink - With the moving statues

Silence in the Library/Forest of the dead - with the awsome shadow body eaters.

The other good ones were written by that bloke off League of Gentleman. Shame Tennant is leaving as Moffat steps in really. Although after watching that new bloke in that detective thing "Moses Jones" I think he could be quite good. Was impressed with his presence.

aye, i know - just mentioned it as LMD was moaning about no 'behind the sofa' moments - the only eps which have had these in recent years have been penned by moffatt. which bodes well for the next series...

I'm with you on that :o

It was a Pitch Black rip off with the Michelle Ryan character trying to be Lara Croft.

And how can you have UNIT and not even make a passing reference to the Brigadier!!

It seemed to me like the production team were trying to hit some kind of 1970s-1980s Doctor Who vibe with this episode, what with the risible insectoids and the many shots of the Doctor being observed on a monitor.
I loved it in terms of the lols, but I'm not sure it was a particularly memorable special.

this was OK: mildly diverting saturday fare, but nothing more than that. I can only conclude that they are saving up the special effects budget for the rest of the specials, because the costumes for those fly-things were laughably bad - some of the worst I have seen in the re-booted series.

Michelle Ryan's acting was very very bad, the plot was skimpy, and only served to show that russell davies has lost interest...it had no pace, or sense of danger.

I'm 5 minutes in on iPlayer and... Gladwell road tunnel? International gallery? 200 to Victoria?

I mean broadcasting house is 20 minutes walk from the national ffs!

e2a: "the aristocracy survives for a reason, we're ready for anything". NO! You're a bunch of bumbling, inbred fuckwits who live off the remnants of estates created by the repression of millions.

I thought it was the best special so far. thoroughly enjoyed it, though it didn't remind me of pitch black at all, a touch of flight of the phoenix maybe?anyway it supposed to be the doctors last bit of fun before it all gets heavy.

I've just watched it. Very good, for what it is - children's television for Saturday teatime. Michelle Ryan was great.

People take it all too seriously and as a result miss out on why its so good. It's like Harry Potter. Treat it like adult telly or adult literature and theorise about it, and you will be disappointed.
