Dour Festival

Saturday's
Venetian Snares vs Vitalic vs Otto Von Schirach is pretty irritating.

Thursday night is shaping up to be hot but I'm a little upset about Tiefschwarz vs Noisia.
Kid606-Sickboy-Rotator is going to be a rinse of godlike stature...!

Friday: Erase Errata vs Hawk & A Hacksaw is crap and they both eat into The National :(
Dave Clarke vs Smith & Mighty+Earl 16 is the one that is most annoying. I've always wanted to see both of these. GGGGGRRRR. I don't really want to come into the Dave Clarke set half-way through, I want to witness what he can build with 2 3/4hours.
Oh well, on the plus side it looks like there's going to be plenty of time for drinking and napping in the afternoons!

The Notwist then Luke Vibert then Autechre then Venetian Snares, all in one run on one stage. Nice!

I'll be going to Amsterdam first too, just on the tuesday night I think. I've been promoting Dour in England, as have several others, so I reckon there may be slightly more english-speaking people there this year? That said, I've never been before, so don't know what to expect.

Definately got the best lineup of all the summer festies this year :)

AHA! A promoter! Cool, I will assault you with questions :D
Where's good to camp (i.e. dry and quiet and not more than 10 minutes walk from the nearest food and no more than 5 minutes from the nearest toilet? Where's the nearest supermarket?
I have more :p ;)

Well like I said I've never been before, but from what I gather, there's just the one campsite that opens on the wednesday, with toilets, lockups, showers, water, bars, food etc.

The nearest place for groceries from the campsite is I think a 20 minute walk from the campsite, but I might be wrong, I just hand out the flyers!

More info on camping here:
http://www.dourfestival.be/en/2007/camping

Let me know if you've any other questions, I'll probably be able to find out the answers.

i got a spare ticket to dour festival if anyone knows of anyone who needs one, my girlfriend cant come.

will sell for actual cost of £65

Yes, that does look shit.

Fuck it, I'm not missing that line-up. Will just go with my original plan of taking the bare minimum of kit and stocking up on waterproof everything.

*goes back to re-read Glastonbury thread for survival tips*

It's a week to go!

I'm excited!

Come on perplexis, you can't lag out now, everything's paid for. If things get really bad, just get a B+B in Brussels and get the train in every day :)

a bit of rain?! You can't fucking bail for a bit of rain! :p

anyway, i don't trust any forecast till at least a couple of days before, and metcheck are infamously unrelliable.

Well, I've totally fucked up and I don't have a ticket and they're sold out. So that's me screwed. "lol"
Still going to make the effort for at least one day. Am slightly fucking pissed off.
&@self and own crap organisation

It's just me being a pussy!
Don't tar everyone with the same brush.
And I am a great big pussy. No doubt about it :p

I thought you already had a ticket p? That's a bit of a fucking bummer :( and half_eaten_arm has just sold theirs as well.

Yarhhh, I messed up a little innit.
Looks like I'm going to be spending a weekend in Brussels drinking beer and eating moules frites. Could be worse! And I am going to try to go for at least one day. Probably Thursday or Saturday. Not decided yet...

I've no idea whether I like the Slackers, but Vive La Fete are playing, and that's breakcore night, so it does appeal!

Cool, would be good to see you - I think we'll miss you on both travelling days as we're going Wednesday and coming back Monday.

Nice one! I have PM'd a few people this morning but no response yet...maybe we could all meet at the bar in the campsite at a particular time? (Not sure when everyone's arriving - me and Mr K will be there on Wednesday evening.)

Well, that ended up being one of the best weekends of my life, but not in the way I expected.

Dour was fucking dour: slapdash organisation, basic site facilities, awash with cold stinking mud, and also awash with something I didn't expect - a massive excess of shitty macho attitude. I'm perfectly prepared to say that my objections to most of the things that did my head in are my own issue, not theirs - the experience has proved to me that I cannot and will not enjoy festivals that involve camping on site/are in the middle of nowhere with no escape from the hordes of braying, yelling, drink-zombies/are awash with cold stinking mud/have nowhere to sit down except in the mud. However, on a less personal note, the sound was pretty shit - DJ Hype sounded like he was coming through an Alba stereo! Lastly, absolutely everyone was smoking huge amounts of skunk, but no one had anything to sell, which was all a bit thirsty-man-in-ocean for me and Mr K. All in all, we were miserable. So on Friday we fucked it off and went to Amsterdam for the weekend instead.

And it was fucking brilliant!

Hope all the other Urban Dourgoers had fun :)

Sorry to hear you had a bad time. Agree the organisation was terrible in places, getting from the entrance gate into the festival took us longer than it took to get from london to belgium! But apart from that and a few other things like the lack of any healthy or particulaly nice food on the site, I had a brilliant time. Pretty much consistantly good acts from the afternoon till 5 in the morning, really appreciative audiences, met lots of very friendly people from all over the place, hoegarden on tap, and the weather sorted itself out after a while and had dried up most of the mud by Friday afternoon. I saw too many people to try and list all the acts who were good, but some highlights for me would include the skatalites, hot chip, black engine, sizla, new york ska jazz ensemble, 65daysofstatic, snares, some electro dj playing on Saturday night, the national… probably more I can't recall at the moment…

Overall, it certainly had its faults in places but the quality of acts and the general atmosphere was top.

ah that sucks, i thought it great...the group i went with and i were getting a bit pissed with the attitude, but the rowdieness did end up making for quite a fun unpredictable festival, the fact the showers were shit was more than made up for when we all found a massive beautiful lake in a quarry and fuck ive never seen so many beautiful girls in one place....anyways the music was top as well, saw some stuff ive never heard of and really got into (shy child, tokyo ska paradice orchestra) and got to see the fucking slackers and ended buying some of the most spasticated pills ive ever had.

all in all a bloody good festival! definitley going next year

I went back in 1999 but apparently its grown a lot since then. When I went all the locals were selling beer and sandwiches out of their garages which was:cool:

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it...like I say, I'm just not built for that kind of thing. I can see how it would be a wicked laugh if you went with a group of mates and had no problem with the mud etc., but it was never going to happen for us. Not sorry we went though, as well as learning a valuable lesson about what kind of festivals are and aren't our bag, we had an absolutely perfect weekend away in the Dam, so it's all good :)
