Doug Stanhope best comedian since Bill Hicks?

if it's at leicester square theatre then the slips are actually better :D
ooo, ooo, what's the story with them? Will I be involved in some Ryanair-esque dash to get one that isn't half inside the toilet or can I take a relaxed attitude to my arrival time?

there are only a few seats each side. the whole theater is small. you just wanna make sure you're not on one of the few seats that mean you'll have to crane yer neck. Take yer time and buy some over-priced shite quality alcohol from shit bar staff although they used to keep the bar open all through his show. dunno about this year.

gah I should get on them to let me go back to do a few shifts while he's on

Yep I'd agree with all that. Bill Hicks this guy aint. He just wasn't that funny...

bill hicks quotes are timeless:

"By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself."

he is beyond be just funny, lee evans is funny but who gives a shit what he says!

wow - that's comedy genius right there!!!!

I can't be arsed with this, but i expect you're letting stuff you hear about it get in the way of you hearing it. fair enough, it's old dead news and you whining about it is even more annoying than people who bang on about him being a prophet and god knows what all.

he made me laugh. a lot

I'm with Tesla and Ouchmonkey, Hicks even said - don't bloody quote ME, go and Think and make your own things to say, your own reality. Not that that stops me from quoting him! And fair point about limited material, but he didn't have the normal lifespan of a - well, anyone generally! So no time to develop Counts of the Netherworld and whatever never was, sigh. Plus the fact that it is so timeless - the Gulf War I stuff is just as relevant now simply because everything seems to get repeated... And at the end of the day I have never heard anyone so funny be so spiritually forward thinking. One last thing, he made me know I'm not alone, well, that and you lot ;)

Anyway, Stanhope I will check out properly! Thanks

Went to see him last night!

Brilliant!

Took a little while to get going but when he did it was totally worth it!

No, no, no. Stanhope is alright but he is like the comedy version of the bootleg beatles.

David Cross, Stewart Lee, Daniel Kitson, Dave Chapelle, Sarah Silverman....I've even seen Ricky Grover kill a room better than Stanhope!

I've got 2 spare tickets for Doug Stanhope tonight, Leicester Sq, 7.30pm, 20 quid each - if anyone is interested PM me..

not a prophet, the prophet..........

thought he was great last night, once he finally got going, definitely a bit light on new material but what was there was funny, interesting and thought-provoking. THe audience, however, seemed to contain more than its fair share of dildos, evenly split between people heckling to show their knowledge of all things Doug or braying morons who've missed the point durrrh raping babies har har.

if it wasn't for the society wedding of September I'd be off to see him again tonight

Good, but doesn't seem like the right voice for his pretty boy face. Overcompensation ;)
Give me Louis CK any day.

i object to the myth making, but I also object to the genius tag. He was never that, IMO - he was good, at times, but he was never a genius, or even consistently great.

In comedic terms he was a genuis and was very unique at that time (that is if you discount the plagerist that was denis leary  )

Anyway as for Stanhope. I like his swagger and fuck you attitude but decent material only fills in between mindless rants about not much really. He certainly has potential but needs to tune in more.

and as for Bruce I still don't know to this day WTF he was on about :hmm:
