don't stop believing

for some reason, seems to have become something of an anthem in preston recently.

please tell me it isn't the case elsewhere? :(

I like that song. It was actually inspirational during a dark time in my life. At times like that, you'll latch onto whatever comes along. I'm glad the song was there.

:)

It really doesn't matter who else hates any song or band that you yourself love.

It's true. That song is wrapped in teflon so far as I'm concerned.

There's another song from that era, not overly well known, that I think forms a nice set piece with journey: Joe Walsh, Life of Illusion.

The video itself is kind of amateurish, but I like the song.

:)

I used to have about 5 James Gang albums. I ended up swapping them for something off my brother, when I was about 16. Fucked if I can remember what now, but I did like those JG albums

When did you first hear it?

I'm not sure to be honest, it just sort of filtered its way into my consciousness and I started listening to it whenever I felt a bit blue a few years ago. I've got quite a few songs like that that are like adrenaline or seratonin shots for when I've got troubles on my mind and headphones in my ears.

Its a great tune with a great guitar solo. The reasonj the kids like it is because all the "cultural informers" who shaped the tastes of previous generations are now middle aged men. So kids can enjoy rock music again. Not much else of Journeys stuff is that good, but they wrote some top tunes.

I thought punk was neccesary, but the way it ultimately informed what british guitar bands could and could not do meant its now eventually panned out to bland landfill indie wasn't what people at the time had in mind. Im sure people scoff at my record collection but I dont care.

I can get it down to sometime in 1983, but no clearer than that.

That's why music exists - for every mood (thank christ for musicians). It's why I obsessed over that mariachi album the other week - it was the only thing making me smile, in a very dark time
