Donald Trump gets go ahead for Scotland golf course resort

Mr Nylon-Hair shot himself in the foot, didn't he, with his whining about the guy obviously just being after a higher price.
Lesson one, Donald. Never imply to a Scotsman that he's trying to gyp you. They take it VERY MUCH to heart. :)

Well, if he did ever decide to sell, the value of his land has just increased by a good order of magnitude. ;)

Anyway - Trump still has three more planning applications to get through before he can even begin & each of them will be meeting stiff resistance:

http://news.scotsman.com/aberdeen/Trump-faces-oneyear-wait.4660854.jp

I'm not through the PLI report yet but it reads like the conditions imposed are as much of a requirement for the council to see that they follow law, policy & procedure this time. Which may yet mean that Trump needs to make suitable modifications to his "masterplan"

Well, he did try to play Aberdeenshire/Excec off with NI by threatening to take the scheme there if a certain date passed without a decision & held talks with Paisley etc over a locaton in Antrim.

The exec then called his bluff & when the date passed & he didn't fuck-off.

Anyway, I thought the spread of predatory corporate interests of any sort was a matter of some national interest just now.

The decision also may have some bearing on the future direction of planning for all sorts of other "protected" & otherwise important undeveloped places on a national basis. For Scotland anyway.

It's a golf course just south of the Arctic circle. There's obviously going to need some kind of iron ball designed, because of the wind up there.

It's going to bring loads and loads of money, even if only for a short time while it's being built/promoted. I mean it's not a Naval contract but with the oil industry going down the toilet they probably could do with it.

Actually, it is quite a lot more - the town they intend to slip in there against all established policy for a start. Golf is only the sweetning aspect.

Oh & the PLI evidence made it quite clear that Trump does not have the money & intends to drive the whole thing by a chain of loans. Quite a different & risky thing.

Let's not base the SNP's record in governing the country on one planning decision

its not just one Planning decision now though - it appears that the SNP are systematically undermining the Planning System as every recent big Planning decision has now gone in the favour of big money. this pattern has been noticable at Local Government level (where they have power) too.

it makes sense from their point of view - Planning is unpopular and is an easy target and Development can (or could pre-credit crunch) deliver short term growth and sends business the right signals (you can trust us) all at a very low cost in terms of public support.

to reiterate what others have said, this is not just a golf course they are building but a small town of 1500 houses - massive in contemporary planning terms and the sort of thing that would normally be planned for over a decade (eg the new 'supervillage' just outside Stirling which has been earmarket since the late 90's).

and the economic argument btw is bogus - it'll all be minimum wage jobs in an area of almost 0% unemployment, and the profits will be disappearing over the Atlantic anyway.

rape from Trump tbh, got away with it hook line and sinker too.

This is only outline permission - He still needs to secure three major permissions before he can even begin.

Whilst it is unlikely these will be refused, there is still some chance of using the conditions imposed by Swinney for some kind of leverage for consessions over the most sensitive part of the site.

it may be disgusting etc, but did anyone really think he wouldnt get it in the end?

he doesnt seem like the type to take no for an answer, and assumes that everyone has their price...

and obv he can afford to pay whatever that may be.

id be more pissed off at the sellers than donald trump tbh, hes a vulture, everyone knows that, but what about the seller(s) who refused to sell...

arent they sorta as much to blame?

Well, apart from it being totally against all stated policies, the local plan & even the law itself for the SSSI area & then Trump's bullying & the final fully legal refusal by the ISC, it does seem somewhat strange that it was passed?

TBH, however very few opponents recognised that most of the estate was land of rather limited value that could be developed. Apart for the disproportionate nature of the housing, It was Trump's determination to build over part of the one truly important area of the site that really irked - He could easily have modified his plans in a way that avoided it completely & at the PLI, he even admitted to ignoring his own advisors & not knowing a thing about it when he took the scheme on.

As for the sellers - The bulk of the estate was owned by one US oil biz lawyer who sold it as a package to the developers. Who then bought-up the rest of the land under a number of assumed names to avoid drawing attention to the scheme - There was all sort of puzzlement & rumours about the activities of these guys for several years before Trump's name was mentioned but nothing that could be opposed.

I heard about it on the news in the summer when he was applying and I thought it was shocking since everyone who lived there was against it but it was still a 'thing'. specially in Scotland since they claim to have a progressive government and so on

i thought it had been rejected since it wasn't in the news for months

now it turns out that he won, i think it's disgusting

I know that it isn't like Donald Trump is the root of al evil or the only one to blame etc, it does still disgust me tho. not him, just the whole thing

Not quite as clear-cut as that - It is true that there is a fair bit of support for the scheme. Partly from the residents of the town of Balmedie who seem to be under the impression that the scheme will suddenly become the centre of the universe & Trump, Tiger Woods & all his chums are going to be gagging to buy-up their 70s/early-80s semis as holiday homes & very stilted reporting in a local paper that totally misrepresented the scheme & its importance to the local economy did not help either.

No serious attempt to quantify the level of support was actually made tho, despite some efforts to set-up a joint agreement to canvass the local area.

Guess who scuppered that one!

well i'm just going from what i saw on the news. it was one of those things where there was an obvious right and wrong for me

donald trump wants to buy a popular bit of countryside/beach and turn it into a golf course so you won't be allowed on there anymore.....

yeah i get all that, i guess it just surprises me that it surprises anyone that a billionaire arsehole who always , always gets his way no matter who he has to walk on , ended up getting his way, again...iyswim...

i aint saying its good, im saying it aint surprising.

i met him briefly and marla maples once in atlantic city when i was on a gambling trip with my nana :D...

hes a total knobhead in person...complete snob and his hair is a fuckin mess up close...dickheed. :D

that is another disgusting thing

he can afford to put grass down on a couple of miles of unique countryside in scotland, like you said 'at any cost' and turn it into a golfcourse but he's too stingy to sort our the top of his own head properly

he looks like a scarecrow in person...i bet he goes through 5 bottles of aqua net a day.

hes made a few holes in the ozone i reckon with his hairspray usage, another reason to hate him. :p

and the fact that we had to watch the apprentice with him on then the equally twattish brit copy with alan sugar on

I think Trump is the personification of some other American Dream. The one that says if you start out with a multimillionaire land devloper father, you can go places, even if you have really really bad hair, and find your own daughter to be hot enough that if she wasn't your daughter, you'd be dating her.:)

and not only fuck up your own country but fuck up countries that most people from your country will only see on TV!!!

I think people are more pissed off than surprised. And justifiably so.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that golf should be banned anyway, just to piss off golfers, who are, without exception, all nobheads.
