Domino's branch caught buying Aldi wedges for 59p and selling for £3.49 per portion

When people go to restaurants what they're paying for is not having to cook it. If they're willing to pay that big a markup so Dominos can cook it for them, that's their decision. Not really a smart one, but theirs.

TIL restaurants buy food, prepare it and then sell it for a profit :eek:

I feel for the staff who are gonna spend the week listening to half-pissed morons arguing that they should get them for 59p or else hey're calling Watchdog/Mumsnet/the Police.

I think what is really cheeky here is that the (40p) Daily Record got a story sent to them and then the (£1.20) Independent published it themselves :D

TBF, they probably come wrapped in unsold copies of the Indie

yep and they are also paying for someone to deliver it to them.

A family birthday took us to quite a posh Chinese restaurant. After our food, everybody ordered dessert. I chose ice cream, which was £3.95 a pop. I asked my daughter if she wanted some, and initially she said no. It was only when everyone was tucking in to their puddings that she said she wanted some now. So, I went over to the main counter and asked the lady if we could have another serving of ice cream. As I did this, I spied behind the counter that they were using Sainsburys' Basics ice cream - price, £0.89 a tub.

Now the funny thing about all of this, is that my Mum and Dad used to serve up Sainsburys' Basics ice cream to me and my daughter when we visited them, but the little one suddenly decided she didn't like it any more and subsequently had yoghurt from that moment on. So, when she got her £3.95 serving of ice cream at the restaurant and began eating it up like a good little girl, I leaned over to ask her why she was eating ice cream if she didn't like it anymore, to which she replied, "But this is better ice cream and tastes nicer than Nanny's!":D

You are like my mum, who continued wearing her post office uniform for approximately 10 years after she retired (seriously, lol :( )....an obsessional display of thrift...BURN THEM, Dotty! :mad:

Or it could be a display of not ever getting fatter, which makes the rest of us feel bad. :(

Ooh, the cheeky monkeys!

I'm pretty sure that the Dominoes outlets are buying their wedges and other things from wholesalers, just like most restaurants do.

Did people think that there were Dominoes farms where special Dominoes potatoes were grown?

And if restaurants sold food for the same price they bought it for from wholesalers - they'd go out of business.

its a rusyic chunky chip, but awesome. plus the skin is the nutrious part

<nutrition pedant mode [npm]>

Actually most of the nutrients in a potato are in the flesh. The only thing mainly in the skin is the dietary fibre.

As someone who always thought Domino's grew their own potatoes on site and hand-carved them into wedges as and when they're ordered, I for one am outraged.

On the other hand, as someone who runs a business, I get stuff from Aldi all the time because it's often cheaper than the cash and carry and it's a five minute walk rather than a twenty minute drive away.
