Dollhouse - new Whedon series

Looking forwards to series two - we really enjoyed the first series, actually. Gave you lots to ponder after each episode.

im glad you posted this beause I gave up on the show when I heard it was cancelled

Really don't. I think they might actually have a conclusion to the story, which is more than can be said for other series that go on and on and on. If they don't conclude the whole thing then they will at least conclude enough to be satisfying. In some ways, perhaps, cancelling it was the best thing that happened to it - though OTOH both Buffy and Angel ended on a closure point, so perhaps Whedon could have managed it with this series too.

Then you'll LOVE season 2. Some of the acting is astounding; the bloke who plays Victor is one of those few who can twitch his head and seem to be a completely different person but still be acting rather than doing an impression. I was initially sceptical about him because Victor was often supposed to be sent out on romance engagements and I don't think he's good looking at all, but man, can he act.

Where is it on itv4, half way though series 1? They really fuck about with it in the schedule. Some times it's on, sometimes its not. Sometimes they don't do the Wednesday repeat, they never trail it anywhere. It deserves more than being ITV4 schedule filler.

Was the final episode of season one, set in an apocalyptic future, shown here? That would've been a better starting point for season two.

I've only watcched it on torrents, so I have no idea how stations here are showing it.

Epitaph one blew me away. I'd say it's worth watching in itself - it's like a mini movie.

Whedon has said once the show was cancelled he decided to conclude the story in the second series. The last episode will be called
Epitaph Two.
He very much regrets not taking the chance to conclude Firefly and was not going to leave fans hanging with this show.

It's just such a pity he started S2 with two dud episodes. I would have liked to see the story played out at least over a full second series. It's fantastic but it's too rushed.

I wonder if the boxed set of S2 will have loads of DVD extras fleshing out the stories. That'd be brilliant.

The next episode, the last one set in the present time, is called

'Hollow Man.' Have a look at T S Eliot's 'The Hollow Men' if you don't know it already. It's one of my favourite pieces of poetry ever, and man does it fit the Dollhouse, especially this part:

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us—if at all—not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

And then it has that famous line about the world ending 'not with a bang, but a whimper.' Nice geek reference there, Joss.

Yeah, watching the 2nd half of S2, there are whole sesaon's worth of storylines being wound up in 2 acts - stuff like

Echo infiltrating the hive mind...at least a half season's worth of story there

Still, E11 has two really excellent twists...shame it couldn't have gone on longer tho...

Yeah, it is rushed, but that's much better than leaving loose ends hanging, and it's working really well. It is for me, at least - I tend not to like slow stories anyway.

The fanfic community is going to go wild filling in the gaps. :D

Just saw the 'final episodes' of S1 last night and blimey, WTF?! (in a good way) with that last one, which I think gsv said he heard doesn't have anything necessarily to do with the rest of it.

It does, but you have to really pay attention to lots of tertiary things in S1.

S'alright. Suffers from the same problem as S1 in that it doesn't really get going for a few eps, and by that point Fox had cancelled it so JW had to write a few seasons worth of storylines into 7 episodes.

The first two episodes are completely missable, dull, Echo-centric doll-of-the-week episodes. The third is pretty good, a doll-of-the-week episode that has some nice foreshadowing and arcing, with a great performance by Enver Gjokaj (Victor). The fourth is fantastic and by the time that episode was made the series was unofficially cancelled so Whedon decided to tie up the entire arc in the remaining 9 episodes. At times the last episodes do feel rushed but the story is great and definitely worth watching.

Slightly belatedly, I watched the last episodes of S2 (and the show, I guess) last night.

Excellent stuff, some genuinely jaw-dropping moments and a fitting end to the show.

Real shame it wasn't given a chance when so much dross continues on television, love to have seen how it could have been played out over a longer arc and not rushed.

Enver Gokaj is going places too, he was far and away the best actor on the show.
