Does the UK need a Farming industry?

Well I'd tend to agree, the EU has become more corporate state than anything else, it's window dressed as some type of utopia which surprisingly fools a lot of people.
I think the yuppie invasion of the country has been a big factor too. Here in Kent you'll rarely find an oast house used for drying hops, a lot of farms yards are housing now too.
I've become a Kent produce foodie, it's more expensive but vital to support as I see it. The interesting thing is how much local produce has come on over the last decade, so meats are free-range, some fish is organically smoked, and a lot more organic SA veg as well, etc.
