Does Sheffield have the most Football League clubs?

Umm surely "the city of london" isnt a city anyway legally speaking as it doesnt have a cathedrel in it, innit?

If tranmere counts as liverpool then they have at least three league teams.

& anyway if you count rotherem as a sheffield team doesnt that make them an evil franchise moving bastard scum? Just without the name change.

apart from st paul's.

Yes, we can tell this by my use of the phrase "I'm not talking about the City of London".
Well either you're referring to Greater London (which isn't a city, it is an area that contains two cities and 32 boroughs), or you're referring to the City of London (which is one of those cities within Greater London)

As you're not referring to the City of London, you must be referring to Greater London, which isn't a city...

He's referring to the London city which doesn't exist. I believe its teams are London United FC, London Wednesday AFC and London City FC.

No, I'm referring, as I said above, to the London which has been a city for hundreds of years and which continues to be a city even if it has grown to such a size that it incorporates other places as well. "City" is a linguistic term - not one that exists purely for administrative convenience, than which purpose it is much older.

Nah Don Valley is on the Rotherham side of Sheffield so practically on the border between the two towns (I say "town", Sheffield is most definitely a city! :D)

Yeah meant st pauls. I know where don valley stadium is. I saw an american football game there agggges ago.

Small borough near London, you're just a small borough near London!

Yea, they played Inter Milan this year at Bramall Lane!

They play in some real lower league

I was there! Took an old pair of boots to donate to the "Boots for Africa" campaign and got free entry. Inter won 5 - 2, with a team of mainly young reserve players but Materazzi played about 70 mins and one of the other players was Hungarys captain or something.

To top that off, Pele showed up in the pre-match warm up

Just had their 150th anniversary, as well as Inter, there's been friendlies with Ajax, Rangers, Blackburn, Arsenal ladies, FCUM over the past year, as well as the 3 (:D) Sheffield sides.

This years friendlies should look pretty good, too!

Not bad for Unibond Div 1 (south) - which they nearly made it out of until penalty shoot-outs in the play-off final. Damn that Nantwich Town keeper!
(for those who want to know how lowdown this league is, FCUM just made it out of Unibond Div 1 north)

Not sure they can count as a Sheffield side anymore, mind, as they're in Dronfield nowadays

But, the legal truth of the matter is that there is the city of westminster and the city of london, then the greater london metropolitan area consisting of the boroughs. and there are no football teams at all in those cities *blows raspberry*

Crsipy is correct.

Lol! :D

Wonder which city in Europe has the most league (ie professional) sides? Def not going to be France...

If you're thinking London, then I count 11, all of which owe their existence, in part, to the idea of Sheffield deciding to take on Hallam way back when

Berlin has 14 btw

it'll probably be knocked down and turned into housing.

there should be a new stadium built in a couple of years time, but they don't know where yet.

I think it'll take a lot longer than that tbh. If you look at the likes of Brighton then it could be years. They'll have to sort themselves out financially before they can even think of building a new ground, and even then it won't be easy to finance, find a site, get planning etc.

Anyway... what happens to Millmoor now?

It's always sad when a team abandons a stadium.

I know it's not on the same level, but I had my lunch sat in the main stand of Aylesbury United's abandoned Buckingham road ground a few weeks ago. Aylesbury are playing in Chesham now after being the boot when the lease expired. The grass on the pitch is 2 foot high and the place is falling to bits.

Strange to think that the England team once played a warm up game there.

Odds are that it'll be turned into housing and Aylesbury will lose it's team for good.

Well hopefully it'll happen, but even if they do have the money building a new football stadium isn't an easy business. If you build it anywhere near where anyone lives you'll get a massive number of objections to it being given planning. A lot depends on the councils attitude which I think was Brighton's problem.

I'd forgotten about this cos it was ages ago now, but I once got refused entry to Millmoor for being too drunk, went back to the pub, went in the home end at half time & got kicked out again. Had to watch the game from that bridge near the ground that you can see one goal from. We won 2-0 and I have memories of seeing both goals go in, although I expect that's probably romanticism.

Anyway, wouldn't get away with that these days.  etc
