Does pasta with 'stir-through' pasta sauce constitute a meal?

still rubbish though, no matter how much you like it

In comparison to what though?
Rubbish in comparison to steamed veg, grilled chicken, new potatoes and salad.
Great in comparison to a plate of those soggy, chewy, chips that most kebab shops sell.

You'd be getting more vitamins and general nutrition from chips.

What!?

Seriously? I would be getting more nutritional value from those shite chips from a kebab shop than I would from wholemeal, boiled pasta and decent pesto?

I don't believe you?

*worries about so fiercely disbelieving fridge magnet* :o

Pasta is just flour and a little bit of egg, and the sauce is minimal unless you absolutely drown it. It's heavily processed junk food. At least chips are actually made from potatoes.

I am pretty sure those chewy kebab/chicken shop ones are severely lacking on the potato front.

Even if they are decent fat chips I still reckon that pasta and pesto is better for you.

I am in no way actually gonna go and find out but I still reckon it to be so. :D

fridge, id just ban her for that: even though you are wrong.

Chips are unfairly slagged off. Being deep-fried they obviously have a lot of fat in them, and the temperature denatures some of the vitamins, but pasta is some sort of weird artificial construct food.

You may be right on both of those counts but I still refuse to understand how chips are better for you than pasta and pesto!

Damn you! I want decent chips now!

Maybe with a pesto dip....

No, actually, I am off to bed. That's the healthiest option for me at this time.

Night all ;)

both carbs and 'filler' food really but chips clearly contain more fat. not rocket science.:p

But chips are made out of vegetables - potatoes are proper veg, they've got all sorts of goodness in them. Pasta is flour and egg, glue in solid form.

Pasta by its self is basicly just carbohydrates, so pretty much energy, a lot of the other stuff gets lost by boiling the pasta

Chips have vitamin c, potasium and fibre!

Of course lots of salt is bad.

Can't be arsed to work out whats in all the various pasta sauces but i wouldnt be overly shocked if fridgemagnet is right.

I'm enjoying Fridge Magnet taking my snob role for the evening here.
;)

I'm with the half a meal crew here; it's desperation or extreme laziness that makes me resort to pasta and a stir in sauce. Come to think if it, it's been years since I've done that. At least chips have got a sinful edge and the promise of greasy satisfaction.

You can get away with it if you've some packs of bacon lardons near permanently in the fridge - they last for bloody ages. Bacon lardons and an egg or two, or a can of decent tomatoes and that's a decent lazy weekday dinner to me. With garlic bread and a salad perhaps, but it's all about the carbo cravings

You know, sometimes I have granary toast with some tomato sauce on it for dinner, if I'm really pissed and/or lazy. I don't count that as a proper meal.
