Does anyone not like ska?

I like the old skatalites stuff and of course was well into 2 tone as a nipper - modern ska sucks though, my friend at work is well into it, bloody noise!

I know very few people who don't like ska. However, I do know that the wild enthusiasm of some is not shared by all - especially after the first hour or so of non-stop ska at a party :D

Personally, I think ska is grrreat. And I'll be going to see the Dead 60s in early Feb (12th is it). There are enough tickets on order for Harpo, silentNate and Epona. :D If you fancy...

Personally, I fucking hate ska and punk.. this may lose me friends on here, but I think they both properly suck arse.

But then I do think Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden is a tune ;)

Oooh, I just got some Dead 60s off Soulseek today. Where are they playing???

I absolutely hate ska  and I honestly thought most other people did as well. The very thought of those pork pie hats, or trumpets, or rooty toot a toot toot nonsense... ruining a good punk anthem or whatever :(

The strong feeling I express here isn't trolling, either. Along with stuff like Coldplay and drab indie there's little I like less.

edited to say that while I'm no expert, the skatelites, or the bosstones, or Madness, or the Specials... sub-par music with a beat that makes my head spin with marinated up-to-here-ishness

So reading through it seems decided then - everyone does like ska. The people who think they don't like ska in fact don't like something else or are confused/unpopular :p

I was thinking of those bands like DogEatDog or Mad Caddies who are punky on the surface but ska things up whenever they can. That's why I mentioned the punk anthems thing.

It's true that I'm not familiar with the 'real' ska other posters are mentioning. It's very popular in France though, I can tell you.

Check the roots before you diss the branches man ... :(

In other words the original/authentic stuff is pretty different, and considerably better. Give it a chance ....

Oh for fuck's sake, Filter.

They are like all the eloquent but limp and runty squirts at your school getting together and making a band in their teenage years, which is normal, except they forgot to split up when they became adults.

Fair call, man. I'm still not sure I really like the ska sound but I was in a properly foul mood yesterday :(

I don't like ska, or reggae, which seems to mark me out as a bit of an oddity. Don't get me wrong, there might well be the odd bit that appeals to me, but I've heard enough stuff that turns me off from digging to discover it. :(

Ska rules!

I just found an internet radio site that plays ska and rocksteady all day.

I have had it on at work and three separate people have come up and asked me for the web address, cos they love it!

that's pretty much conclusive proof!
