I did actually like 'Parachutes' a lot. But then I didn't have a radio or a telly at the time and didn't have to listen to 'Yellow' six million fucking times a day.

Their music is not bad enough to justify all the criticism , music snobbery without a doubt , there are many more bands that churn out far worse shit without all the vitriol being hurled at them.
It took U2 many years before they grew big enough to get people to hate them , its only taken Coldplay 3 or 4 years.
Having said that I will turn off the radio or turn over the TV if they are on, but its not because of the music itself its because you can`t avoid them wherever you go , Woolworths , barbers , bars , restaurants , radio , TV .

I don't like them, but I don't think they are as abysmal as people say either. It's just utter nothing music.

It's clearly not cool to like Coldplay on Urban.
I'll be honest then -
I used to like them quite a lot when they first came out.
Then I thought they were boring as hell.
Then, more recently, my tastes have relaxed, and I don't mind what they're doing now. I just find it hard to believe that they deserve that much criticism when there's so much out there thats 100x worse!

i've liked a few of their songs, but they sure do churn out a lot of dull crap.
that said, there are many many worse bands out there and sometimes i think i'm harsh on them. Of course, then that Chris Martin tit shows up on my telly to remind me what a bell end he is.

I think I shall have to back up Firky here, they are a piece of shit band. Mediocre yes. Over marketed yes. Boring lyrics yes. Bland music yes. I can forgive the younger people for falling for the nonsense and hype - the older urbanites who like them should hang their heads in shame.

I quite liked them once - they wrote a handful of half-decent tunes - but ultimately they failed to become interesting. And what I've heard of the last album - especially 'Fix You' - is just lazy, smug, cynical arsecandlement.
