My son loves studio ghibli - he's 3 and a half. He likes totoro, spirited away, howls moving castle and is getting well into kiki even though I've only got a subtitled rip of it :)

Oh yes I loved Persopelis. I think I was being a bit dismissive there, but I do find it hard to engage with 2d animation.

I haven't seen Waltz with Bashir but I really want to.

Perhaps it depends on the style of the animation, I really love Family Guy but don't really enjoy the animation side of it. ifyswim.

Hmmm.

Hmmm.

You might find something to enjoy in the aforementioned "Ghibli Studios" stuff.

Perhaps try either Spirited Away or Howls Moving Castle first if you want to bother trying!
(Japanese with subs of course, though the two I have mentioned have OK English dubs)

I suppose if you can't find any connection to, or joy in, the animation/art itself, I can completely understand why you wouldn't be that interested in watching anime.

For Persepolis for example, did you feel that it was a good movie despite being animated or did you enjoy the whole package..?

dont watch it but i dont have a problem with it.

i'd prefer a fella to like anime than regular porn. I think it says somethin about a fella. Liking straightforward porn indicates someone dull maybe, liking anime indicates a more oddball kinda lad with a good imagination. I know which one i prefer:cool:

I had a flat mate at uni that was quite manga obsessed so have watched a fair bit, I own fuck all and don't have that much love for it but do love all the ninja scroll type stuff and a few other things.

don't own a lot but if someone suggests chucking some on i won't bitch about it so i will go with light fan.

Um, Cheesy, anime isn't all dodgy porn. :hmm;

Which is probably the reaction that Miike had in mind...

Are you talking about the animated version or the film though?

Try the latter if you have only seen the former (which is pretty poor) and make sure you get the uncut version.

:)

I've seen a few of the Ghibli films which i really liked, spirited away, howls moving castle, kiki's delivery service. maybe some others, can't remember.

I did however really like Tekkonkinkreet which I watched the other day.

I want to see that. been listening to the soundtrack by Plaid loads recently.

I like the the whole package of Persopelis. I like comicky book type stuff, I just don't really like the anime style I don't think.

I'll give it a go though.

It took a while to grab me - it is a little obtuse and surreal, but the end is gloriously bonkers and well worth sticking with and experiencing.

:)

...and I did admit afterward that synonymous was probably the right word for what I was trying to communicate.

I wanted to get the OST on cd but it's stupid money!! (is ok though, have d/loaded). Might get the fillum on dvd which is much cheaper :)

only seen the anime, gf has the proper film too, and laughed through most of it:D

I've followed a few - Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, Trigun, Dragon Ball (I was 13 :p), Ghost In The Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Urusei Yatsura, and a few others. Currently I'm slowly downloading Rose of Versailles - the whole concept is so bonkers it should be fun.
