It's really useful to be able to browse through what festivals are going on that I haven't heard of or wouldn't have thought of, and that just wasn't possible before in the music forum.

I know there are other sites specifically for that, but I don't like any of those much... :D

I don't want everything compartmentalised off into little specialised silos of specialised interest - a little fruity intermingling and diversity is needed.
I'd normally agree with you but I think the time-based nature of the festivals forum - part listings, part chat, part organising meet ups - makes it an exception.

Having threads for all types of festivals is a good thing as it all year round affair and as Mr. Steev has pointed out for some nowadays you have to book/register in advance.

It may be worth pointing out at the top of the thread that its for constructive comments to provide awareness and assistance to all rather than having posts that have content like how mr x's dog's string/rope is longer than mrs 'y's as it just dilute's the reason for being there. Reminiscing about the old times is fine but stick on a completely separate thread to those that are trying be informative. Thats way everyone's happy and you can find out and comment a lot faster [he remembers some of the Glasto posts a year back]

Still, its a worthy of having its own forum so keep it I say, keep it! :)

[wonders off after just realising that you need to register for Glasto:( ]

Ach, I'm consistent at least. I've continually argued against new forums to not that much avail - threads and dreads is a particularly shit addition imo, experiencing a tumbleweed worthy couple of posts a day and adding little to the boards. With threads like 'which handbag is this' still showing despite little activity, things just linger around unnecessarily

My gut feel is that urban doesn't need to be all things to all people and that the idea of ever categorising and splitting things is more anal and restrictive than productive. You shouldn't have to continually spoon feed people to help them find threads which may be of interest/relevance to them

Festivals promises to be a more useful forum than most, but if people really can't be arsed to find the right, clearly marked threads amongst a few pages of chat then prhaps they really aren't that committed to saying something. It's hardly as though the whopping Glasto threads, for example, have suffered because people couldn't be arsed to track them down and contribute.

i voted no for having it, but now it's here i'm voting meh, whatever. don't bother changing for the sake of change, but now it's here keep it and see if it works.

although, my underpants ARE full of benylin today.

What we need is a books and writing schism from the film and telly forum.

But it will never get senior-level support; most of the mods would struggle with an abridged Mr Men book.

Twenty seven threads have been posted on already today with something like a 100 posts. That's more than some entire boards get!
Yes, but the claim was so fast moving that one couldn't keep up. If WoW is having trouble keeping up, I worry that he'll strain hisself with all the antics that people get up to at festies. I worry, deeply :hmm:

You're extraordinarily rude.

No particular offence was meant. It's just that AFAICS threads devoted to politics, electronic gadgetry, music or filmed entertainment attract mods; threads about books don't. Which is why fiction is squashed uncomfortably with telly and films in cinderella corner.

I did look on the "who posted" section of the "what are you reading today" thread with a vague idea of proving this in an unarguable graphic. But sanity intervened.

I fucking hate all these new forums.

remove this abomination please.

That's one bizarre argument to justify your clearly insulting comment that "most of the mods would struggle with an abridged Mr Men book." Very odd.

But FYI, I really didn't want the 'threads and dreads' forum but it was overwhelmingly voted for.

If you think there's a big demand for a book forum, start a poll and see who's interested.

Well, the vote currently seems fairly conclusive with 5 to 1 in favour of the forum staying and only 12% wanting to see it deleted.

It's attracted a lot more votes than the original (two option) poll too so that would suggest it's far more representative, even if a vocal minority are deeply unchuffed. Sorry!

So you've probably already decided, but to add my twopenceworth - I like it. Its easy to see / find out about the smaller, lesser known festivals in particular, see who's going where, lots of links, tips, prices, advice etc. Yes you can find that information elsewhere but Im lazy...... :o

It will probably quiet off towards the end of the summer, when the festivals are done but there will be some 'do you remember / did you see' chat Im sure, along with arguably the best set of photos you could ask for - festival photos!!! :D

Now you can get on with the smilies then. :)

Hang on a minute!!!!!

Putting this poll inside the festival forum was always going to give you the answer you wanted wasn't it.

It gets worse.

:shakesheadsadly:

ed, you probably won't address me, but am i ever in the wong? :)

Serious I know how to mkae websites work, am a drunkard and a pain in the arse but i know how folk tick online!

Er, except far more people voted for it.

And your logic if flawed anyway.

If people didn't like the forum, they'd still vote against it, regardless of which forum the poll was was placed in. As the results prove.
