Right. Which is why the sensible thing is to not give a fig about meaningless words on the internet.

Why don't you apply that rule to everyone, particularly the little kid above who has clearly broken all the rules?

A Cardiff City forum wouldn't go amiss.

I was serious about this, btw. It would be great fun, and a return to the roots of U75. Obviously don't let any other team have a forum, so their fans would get pissed off and invade ours all the time. It would be a virtual version of the Grange End circa 1975.

Rule?

My golden rules are:

PMs are Private
Real Life Identities are Private
Spam can fuck off
Racists can fuck off

Everything else is interpretation, randomness, moon phase, whether I'm hungover or not, or any other factor.

In general, I assume that people are adults and can treat words on the internet appropriately. All the playground shit bores me and I just can't get my head into the sort of space that takes it seriously.

Yeah you're right, wondering about the voting in a poll is a right rule breaker...:p

Come off it. The only one who's broken the rules is you with your HILARIOUS soulwanker reposte. You were the first one in with the abuse too.

Tosser.

vut - regardless - one theme is emerging; a consensus to leave well alone.
I'm not going to foist this forum on anyone but I can't see how you've reached the conclusion that a "consensus to leave well alone".

Currently over half - 51.16% - are in favour of a new forum compared to 37.21% against and another 8.14% not caring either way.

If that adds up a 'consensus' in your world, can I have some of what you're drinking please? :D

I think that someone pointed out that the front page of sport already moves at a slow rate, with football. If all the football threads were removed into a football forum, the rest of sport (though gaining from more exposure) could stagnate.

Why not just list the 20 teams in the Premiership, and then the dedicated fans could discuss what they liked, leaving more space for a broader sports forum?

Over time the most popular teams would stay close to the top, (I have been reliably informed that that would be Westham!), with those who are not supported staying near the relegation zone!

You could even have an ongoing vote for the Team Thread Name!

Might be fun! :D

Didn't bother voting. I don't think you have 51% of the people made the effort to post about it - and I think they should count more .

You're the editor - you'll do it anyway if you want. I think you're trying to justify something you already decided to do with this poll. How often do some of the people who voted actually post in the sports forum anyway? Polls on the internet are notoriously unreliable - it's too easy to just click a box on a topic you don't give a damn about.

Too many forums.

I can't see the need for a seperate forum, its hardly like you'd post and it gets lost in 5 minutes.

Well that's just the thing: I don't.

Not true. Just like the recent poll for the fashion forum, the options weren't giving a clear picture, so I thought I'd ask again.

It's really no big deal. If you're against the idea, you simply vote and say so and if it emerges that there's no great interest in the idea*, the forum doesn't happen.

(*as I have stated before, 'interest' being gauged by the amounts of votes registered overall and the percentage in favour).

As it is, it's looking unlikely that the new forum will happen and I won't be "doing it anyway."

But surely you can see the reasons why I'm keen on the idea? After all, the whole ruddy thing started as a football website!

So what about #73?

Good compromise? Bad Idea? Imaginative solution?

I like the Team Thread Name idea tho I don't know if it's possible...

Terrible idea. I've no interest in elevating the Premier$hip above everything else.

Besides, there's probably more support for lower league teams here and I'll be buggered if I'm going to start hundreds of threads for every team in the land.

The prem is the most popular by far, but if you fail to see the merit in the idea that is your privilege. I just decry the lack of vision or guts.

I would thus suggest no change, as a football forum would just stagnate the rest of the sports forum.

I think your suggestion is a pointless idea.

There are plenty of threads already dedicated to the teams that people wanted to start one on. Why does editor need to list them for us?

One's listed on the current page include:

Tottenham

Arsenal

West Ham

Liverpool

Villa

Cardiff

'Vision or guts'?

It's a shit idea anyway but that just makes you look ridiculous.

How does refusing to pander to the media dominance of the Premiership and giving all teams equal standing here somehow equate to a lack of vision and 'guts' please?

The Sports forum doesn't move quickly enugh to really justify another forum though does it - even with Football included, there's 4 day's worth of posts on the front page. Take football away and the rate of movement on the rest of the forum would be positively glacial.
Agreed. I don't really see the point of putting football in a separate forum.

Many of the people who voted for football to be separate, have no interest in football. I'm sure some of them never visit the sports forum anyway.

So you're upset that the Prem is so dominant?

Get over it! Of course it is! It's the best football and is responsible for the majority of the football threads here.

Setting up a forum of the 20 teams would be an interesting idea, but you dismiss it on spurious grounds. That's the lack of vision and guts I mentioned.

Meanwhile claiming that you won't do so coz it's unfair coz not every team is supported by the same number of people just sounds like a rubbish excuse...

Err, no.

You know absolutely fuck all about setting up and running forums so for you to accuse me of lacking "guts" because I refuse to go along with your clueless fuckwit of an idea just makes you look like a prize wally. A rather rude one, at that.

I'm sorry if you feel I am being rude, but you claimed to be
refusing to pander to the media dominance of the Premiership

Sounded like you were putting this forward as a reason not to tryout something new.

Meanwhile I know enough to know that setting up a permanent 20 thread subforum is not impossible, just difficult.

You still haven't given me a reason as to why it is a "fuckwit" idea.

It would syphon off the hardcore football fans, without detriment to the sports forum, while being an interesting experiment (for the reasons I gave in #73).

If you were able to do it, you could always get rid of it later, if it turned out to have unforeseen repercussions, but to dismiss it out of hand with no real reason given just seems like a lack of vision.

1) I don't want three quarters of the page taken up with sub-forum. It's bad enough that editor is suggesting adding one sub-forum let only 20;

2) Why would you want to syphon off fans of different clubs to different forums?

3) Why would I want to have to check 20 forums to find out what is going on in the sports forum?

4) What is wrong with the club specific threads that are used?

5) The club specific threads aren't exactly hives of activity that they need a separate forum.

6) There are lots of club specific forums on the internet. Why do we need it here?

7) What about the other clubs not in the Premier League? Why are they ignored? Why not have a forum for every club in the world?

I'm sure that there are many other reasons not to experiment with this.

Interesting experiment? - No

Fuckwit idea? - Yes

ETA - Found out I got the slight wrong end of the stick but 2, 4, 5 and 7 are still appropriate. In addition:

a) surely you would have to stop other threads being added which makes a separate forum pointless

b) I'd still need to check another forum to find out what comments are being made about the Premier League teams

c) why do the Premier League clubs need to be treated differently?

d) where would my Avram Grant thread go?

I still think it's a fuckwit idea, although I'm a fuckwit for misreading your proposal initially.

He's not suggesting a separate forum for each club, but one forum with a thread for each premiership club - a 20 thread forum. It's still a stupid idea.

i dont get this

apparently the last poll the majority were in favour, yet all i remeber from it is most people saying leave it alone

and again on this poll, yes is slightly wining, yet the majority of posts are saying leave it alone

editor, leave it alone for god sakes! all these sub forums do my bloody head in. whats the point? we might all be into sport in these here parts, but we aint so numb skulled that we cant find what we want in one big all encompassing forum. we dont need any filing into little compartments of football, rugby, criket, swimming, tennis, motor racing, hockey, badminton, golf, darts, horse racing, dog racing, boxing, gymnastics, origami, judo, wrestling, basketball.... leave as is, please!

also, as a side point, the majority of the people voting yes hardly post in here anyway!

I voted yes. Don't post a whole lot in here nowadays (don't post an awful lot generally :o ). Got a bit of worried jinx ting going on if I post about Liverpool, just read the threads now.

I voted yes mainly because one sport I really do love is cycling, and it's easy to miss threads if there's been a big footie week. And I like a lot of other sports, maybe if football had its own forum and there was a sub-sports forum, more sports would be discussed? :)
