Do You Venue....?

Dj TAB

Mr Whippy
Hi All,

Some of you may be aware (or not) I am involved in organising parties...
Following discussions with several people from other crews I'm getting the impression that good party venues are becoming more difficult to find...

Certainly the Redstar is now gone, The White Posts aside from being horrible is going to try and go above board.... We did have a lead on a railway arch in the Brixton area that has been partied before, however the owner is being massively dis-honest in his motivations for letting people use his venue. (You know who you are, and charity begins a long way before you pocket £750 sunshine!)

So Urban (or at least those with London roots) can you help me find some new party venues....? I'd really appreciate any assistance Urbz may be able to offer, and of course if it results in a party or two I can arrange some group passes for you plus a few mates....

Should you need any more info on what we and others do please pm me. If you need more info on our venue requirements, or have any further queries please do get in touch.

I'm gonna post this in community too FYI!

Thankyou!

Sorry but I don't agree that the White Post is "horrible". The people that run it have put alot of work into it.

^^^^^^

I know, and have worked with Mr Beer for a while. I wish him all the very best with what he's trying to do.

Hopefully he'll start to make some money so he can spend some. I've had some great nights at Hackney Wicked...

london venue depression

it's an age old problem. in theory Corsica Studios is great, but i dunno, it never really goes off in there?

It has at the parties I've been to there - the Bleep party with Surgeon was the best I'd been to in years - that new Funktion 1 sound system is the nuts. Corsica is my favourite venue in London - you need at least 200 through the doors though

Red Gate Studios is alright too - fucking cheap as chips bar.
You'd need to bring your own sound though.

There's the place that Serious Business & Electric Avenue are doing their next party. But you may already know about that cos I've mentioned it already. :)

does red gate studios have a late license? does it cater for nightclub type events or is it an art space only?

No it's not, Serious Business is at Arch 269, almost opposite the Red Gate place :)

Last time I went past there it was advertising space available during the day..
..just remembered a conversation I had with a guy who helps set up new clubs/bars - he recommended contacting Transport for London as apparently they have loads of space, eg arches that they consider letting to people on a short-term basis..maybe this isn't what you are after but still a pretty  idea I reckon

Thanks all, I'm intrigued by the notion of approaching TFL!!

"...er hello, my name's toby and I'd like to er find somewhere to get lots of people together in to listen to really loud music, and get off their heads..."

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained I s'pose..

I like the idea of a TfL place... aren't there some disused tube stations somewhere? Wouldn't that be great? :D I've a feeling Warp did something like that for one of their parties...

This place; www.shunt.co.uk has done it..opposite SE1, in London Bridge under the arches where there was a fat NYE squatparty a few years back, a wikkid space, they use it for all sorts of stuff, not the loud music and off head-getting type though;)..
..a mate did a party in a closed tube station around Aldgate way a few years back, it wasn't cheap to hire iirc..

No, I meant Warp the record label. I do remember the Warp Experience though.

I loved the Drome, it was a great venue. Those back arches were a bit messy, though – apparently it was a car park during the day :D

WTf's the membership thing all about with that place though? I don't get why they do it?

does it open all night?

we did a party in there years ago and it only went on till two.

also the corrugated iron lined arches do not make for good accoustics

just bust a building tab ;)

Also you could try Jax in London Bridge.
used to be called Happy Jax 'back in the day'. steeped in rave history!
another venue we used years ago. was a bit rough and ready, just the ticket ;)

also Tony from 414's place next to L'boro Jct Station - Dance Industry Studio's. If he has sorted out the sound proofing etc it's a top (if quite large) venue. DJ'ed @ a few parties there when it first opened and it was  although there was a bit too much rig put in it for the neighbours

different/easier licensing laws for members bars/clubs than public venues.

If it was the place they had the NYE squat party a few years ago then, no, it isn't the same as the old Drome/ now SE1. It is similar arches/ tunnels but in the next block along, after Stainer Street I think.

Jacks has a lovely sound system, you'd need to get a lot of people through the door though.

As far as TFL is concerned i think your talking about the new TEN licence thing where u can hire a space and do it legally providing the council/police approve your application. You need someone with a alcohol cert. if you wanna run a bar. I've often thought of it but have never stumbled across a suitable space.

apparently some of those arches have been turned in to a wine bar.

Bang - Not sure, practically, TENS are going to be much use for anyone who wants to put on a 'dance' event. one muttering of 'drugs' from police and you wont get it.
