Do you think humans will inhabit another planet?

Centigrade. Apart from the really acid rain, you could happily walk around in the open air at that altitude, whist breathing from a can of oxygen. Tshirt jeans and trainers.

Walk around where? Your balloon ship? That would soon get a little boring.

Why bother with the hassle and ethically hazardous process of terraforming a planet, just build Orbitals and/or Ringworlds to your specification...much easier, doable with stuff lying around in asteroid and Kuiper belts...terraforming tho? Waste of time I reckon, not to mention actually having to find somewhere you're not going to wipe out existing or potential species in order to recreate the Terran bio-and ecospheres...

Yes, but the point isn't so much will earth become uninhabitable, as where would we go.

I think also that, as Earth becomes more difficult to inhabit, our chances of getting off it will also decrease... Money will have to go from scientific initiatives into keeping the populace alive (as well as loads of other consequences that I'm sure you can infer), so the more we stress the earth, the lower our chances are of escaping. I'm not a doom monger though, i think we'll pull through somehow; even the US and China are coming over to renewables etc... there are going to be some horrible bumps along the way though, when a population becomes unsustainable something has to give, and it's usually in the third world. And while I'm sitting pretty running scuba diving tours of central london in a Caribbean climate, i fear the same may not be true of much of the rest of the world.

Once we have managed to get things relatively stable down here I think it's only a matter of time... Space elevators and fusion would make the process pretty quick imo, even without the latter I think it would be doable as you could get the components for huge solar arrays up pretty cheaply on a lift... You'd still need some kind of propulsion once you're up there, but without the difficulty of getting out of the atmosphere it will be a lot less. Of course where you go and how you deal with the conditions there are still going to be a major issue.

we'd have to find a planet with breathable air. If we wanted to terraform a planet, wouldn't that take 100s if not 1000s of years?

Finding a planet with breathable air might be a tad tricky.... oxygen is highly reactive, it readily bonds with other molecules, without something constantly replenishing it, it soon gets bound up in rocks or combined with other gases. Early life on earth was anaerobic, it produced oxygen as a by-product. Without well established life, you're not going to find a convenient, oxygen rich atmosphere.

Terraforming a plant is easy - you just need to find the reactor built by the long extinct aliens. The reactor makes oxygen by melting the turbidium deposits. Start the reactor xes, free Mars...

last time I cranked that old baby up,I had black helicopters over my house for a week!! I mean,I don't mind giving a blood and sperm sample when I go to get a mobile phone, but watching me masturbate in the mornings is a bit much.

Nah, outdoors. On your balloon ship :D

I suppose you could build a cloud city like what's his face from star wars. Still there is something that smacks of 'why bother' when it's worse than you own fucked up planet in the first place.
