Do you take things back to the shop

I have noticed though, that M and S have changed their refund policy and there is now a time limit for returns.

3 months. I think that's pretty generous, actually - most places is 28 days.

What did it used to be?

Sometimes I buy them just to take them home and get a better look at them/try them out.

Consider the queue for the changing rooms in Hennes on a Saturday afternoon for example: Yep - damn sure I take things home to try them on and take them back if they don't suit or fit. It's never been an issue. If I'm in doubt, I'll check with an assistant first that it'll be OK.

If an item of clothing turns to rags after a couple of wears and a wash, providing it didn't come from Primark say (in which case it's so cheap, what did I expect..), I'd feel no compunctions about asking for a refund.

While returning a pair of trousers the other day, I happened to get into a discussion about the jeans I was wearing bought at the same time. They'd fitted well when I bought them, but were advertised as being subject to 5% shrinkage when washed. I'd washed them once and they'd stretched instead, so much that it looked like they were a couple of sizes too big. One assistant tried telling me that I should always buy a size smaller because their jeans always grew bigger. Even though it was claimed in the blurb that this style would shrink. It was so bizarre that even though I'd previously decided to swallow my losses with this pair, I then determined to take them back. Which I did, no problem. And I'm glad I did cause I wouldn't have continued to wear them, they'd got so big. Who of us has so much disposable income that we can afford to gift it to the High St?

As for food, I swallow my losses more often than not, but damn right I'd send something back whether back to the kitchen or back to the shop. It's a judgement call really. Is it of a quality you could reasonably assumed to have expected for the price you paid for it? Does it fit the description in the menu? Is it edible? Did it do what it said on the packet? If not, take it back!! You're well within your rights.

Edited to say: Wine. Yep, taken that back too. If it's been truly horrible. I didn't buy it to experience emptying the bottle as some kind of endurance test.

It's OK to take things back, honest ;)

As for those who'd rather not complain about food cos the chef might spit in it - :o - what do you take them for? Uncivilised barbarians? Chefs have pride in their food - I've never met a chef who would ruin their own creation out of spite.

i've got a tale for you Orang Utan....

working with, and knowing a lot of teenagers has it's benefits sometimes - i've been told by quite a few kids that our local KFC has a manager who spits, flobs and generally fucks about with peoples' orders if he 'doesn't like the look of them'

whether a KFC chef can really be described as a chef though is a matter for discussion... :D

It's no matter for discussion - a chef makes food. I wouldn't even describe a fast food operative as a cook. A frier maybe. :)
