Be honest with ya WoW, if you were anyone else or if I didn't like you, I'd have flamed you by now.

ooohh nasty flames!

give ya self a slap before someone else does :p

Why do you give a fuck? And why do you think it's your business?

It isn't my business to know what he does, unless he chooses to say what he does (I am curious mind).

I give a fuck that peolple might be working there who thoroughly hate the place and can see nothing positive about it. Or appear not to. There are more than just him around I know, it's just that are so many people who'd LOVE to contribute and work there, and would enjoy it more than he appears to with an attitude like that. Give the work to them. They'd be happier and so might he to be shot of it and the exchange might be to the festival's benefit.

I'm in a vacuum of information here though ... initially I was reacting (badly!) to a fairly surface/throwaway attitude I guess.

Why?

Why is it of such BURNING fucking importance to you? It's just a festival, and you're just someone who goes to that festival.

You have precisely fuck all perspective about this, and it's ridiculous

And exoculate's perspective is where?

I worked there too remember (admittedly just for the first time, this time).

You're not altogether wrong about the lack of perspective, but I do, honestly, have plenty of criticisms (informed ones!) to make myself. I guess I'm no good at dealing with how some people make theirs. I thought his original post was just as rude as anything I've said.

To be fair, s/he didn't say s/he was working at/for the festival, s/he just said s/he had to go cos it was "job related." You can imagine all kinds of jobs where this might happen -- journalist (as you suggested yourself), A&R person, police officer.... the list goes on.

It's a scary world where you have to like where you go to work, just because you work there, no? Or is Glastonbury different?

You still seem to think you have some god given right NOT to be in a 'vacuum of information', it's some kind Glastonbury-based egomania, as if everyone's opinions about Glastonbury have to be run past you and authorised.

It's not your festival, and people can think what they want about it without being on the end of a hissyfit from you.

I'll tell you this - if I'd never been and I read your posts, I'd make a point of never going.

I think the button's making the fairest point, and that's made me think harder. Apologies to everyone for not thinking about it in the way he suggests. I mean that. I'm not going to win any faviurs or arguments here. It was totally to do with my dislike of throwaway sneering, that reaction is not even particulary festival specific.

If I started again, I'd neutrally ask him -- politely, seriously -- why he thought that, not because I have any divine right to know and it's certainly nothing to do with running anything past me, but just because I'm genuinely curious, or at least I am now, and should have been only that the start rather than losing it.

Apologies all. I'm honestly not as bad as you think I am.

Can't you see how arrogant that sounds?

I'm not arrogant, just someone who fucks up. We all do it in different ways.

As it happens I had a great time this year, just like you, and last night I put up long posts on the other thread about stuff I liked and didn't. You didn't seem to take any notice of those, but you're picking up on this.

That's not logical though (nor all that respectful of the positive insights/knowledge about the place that I do have to offer, see other thread .... ). Why on earth would you or anyone let what just I think or say stop them going? I only have 1 person's take on it, There are almost as many different views about Glastonbury as there are people going. Anything wondering whether to go would not be stupid enough to base their decision just on what one person said, surely, however stupid the original comments might be!

No doubt my ramblings have put off some people from going, but I know I've persuaded, encouraged and inspired others to come and give it a go, and they've had a fine time (apart from the poor guy who went in 1997 and 1998 and never before, never since, ulp!). Both of us go back along way on this, you know your shit about Glastonbury, I know mine, very different takes I expect but overlapping knowledge and memories. Show a bit more respect and less hostility please.

that's a good post, william :)

no one thinks you are 'bad' ffs!

Thanks for that firlky, appreciated. I'm drunk and missing Deb (loads) so I snapped for none too logical reasons. I'm off to bed now, and off to a tiny little festival in Wales with her tomorrow.

(Workhouse).

It was good that people had such a great time, but no - I don't regret not going. I like and go to one day festivals but I'm not keen on stopping over on-site. All my holidays as a kid were camping, so I'm used to it. But I'm just not that keen on camping nowadays and particularly where I can't get properly washed and go to the toilet easily. I know that sounds soft, but having been there done that, now I have an option - I opt out. Though the biggest deal breaker for me is stealing from tents.

Go to bed :p

And off my favourite subject? :p

But yeah ... :o

ETA : Cesare just seen your post, fair points, especially about tent thieving, that's a real worry. We got turned over ourselves nothing taken thankfully, but on our return we found the tent in even more of a state than before ;)

I'm off ...

Nope, enjoy it much more from a distance these days.

I prefer the smaller festies, big crowds just freak me out and I cant cope with all those youngsters off their tits . Its official I am an old fart :D

I did Eastern haze last year, which was pretty good. Its such a shame they've folded already :(

No. Going every year, without even considering any alternatives, had become just a habit. :)

To those who've not been, I'd really really recommend going once.

For years friends kept suggesting I come along, and I refused. The way I saw it, it appeared to be living in filth for days on end, and taking far too much drugs simply to cope with how hideous it was.

Then, somehow, I ended up with a ticket, walked over the brow of the hill approaching, went 'OMG'... And have never looked back. You only have to read Charlie Brooker's review from last year to see how even the most sceptical can end up liking it even in the worst conditions.

Go, go once. If you don't like it, then hey - you've been and seen.

From where I was working I'm fairly sure I could have snuck in Backstage, and never once wanted to.

You really mean you'd only go if you could stay in the shit bit full of shit people?

I had to go backstage for work and it was fucking rubbish. All the fun's out front.

I've never been, so I don't know what I'm missing :)

I'm gutted I'm not going to Endorse-It though :(

not at all.
its very difficult to resist living so close to it but seeing how fucked everyone was when they came out of there really confirmed for me that i'd made the rght choice this year.
there's a lot of people round here who feel the same these days (for various reasons) so i dont feel out of place by not wanting to go.

Erm, no I'd only go if it was free and I could access the clean facilities. The days of wading through rivers of piss to get to a longdrop are long gone!

I give a fuck that peolple might be working there who thoroughly hate the place and can see nothing positive about it.

I hate to break this to you WoW, but there will be hundreds, if not thousands of people working there who fucking hate the place, and view it as nothing more than another weekend in which they are earning a living.

Actually working there is my idea of a nightmare. Like going to a pub full of your pissed mates when sober.

Fuck that. And sure, you get free tickets - but this year there were last minute tickets going for £10.

Be gutted if working all those hours just to get in free could have been avoided, LOL!

I couldn't go, even though I wanted to and had the money :(

Next year though, for sure, week away I reckon. :)

I refused to go for about 10 years, I'd been about 5 times before my break. I have loved the last 2 years though, lorra lorra fun regardless of weather. For me it's been about the people I am with and getting to meet up with the people I never see there, last year I didn't see one band, this year I saw a few at least :)

Everyone should go at least once, IMO. There is nothing quite like it on Earth. It is a life changing experience.

But like all good things, its good to know when you've had enough.
