I was talking to a very shallow young lady who said she'd never go out with a bloke who didn't have a car

I'm sure sensible non-car-owning men are sighing with relief.

I don't own a car - I sold it to my brother when I realised it was costing me 100's a month, and I only used it once or twice a month. Since then it's been public transport or hiring cars for the weekend. I'm happier, my wallet's happier, and I'm a smaller part of the hydrocarbon problem.

Voted 'Never' - I hope to cycle and public transport it all my life. Who knows what the world'll be like in 50 years time though - a nice little electric runabout might be an attractive option.

Yes - a little 2-seater softtop which is great fun. Largely due to the fact I don't have to drive it to work at the moment so its a weekend toy.

This also means I'm killing the planet less - only at weekends. :)

Got three, a Honda Accord, an Audi Turbo, and a classic Golf Cabriolet. About to buy another, but possibly a van rather than a car.

Don't drive so no. BUt help fund my sisters car. Blooming expensive it is too. (But I do get a chauffeur - at least sometimes)

My boyfriend's 1983 chevy s10 pickup has been on its last legs for over a year and finally bit the dust yesterday on his way home from work; he was hoping it would last until his first big paycheck this friday, so he could purchase a shiny new Toyota Tundra but alack, it fell four days short.

I guess I should have broken up with him immediately but since it's his birthday tomorrow, I cut him a little slack and loaned him my suburban for the rest of the week.

I own half a car (I have a half share in a car I can't drive but do get driven in) - which makes it a bit difficult to vote in the poll...

No, don't need to go off road. Prefer not to drive a motorised shopping trundler, though.

snob! ;)

Nothing wrong with small cars! You can get to places are lot quicker cause you can squeeze into tight spots, not to mention parking, fuel efficiency, cheaper road tax, insurance, etc...

Also, you'll never get a chance to go drive fast on any of the roads in London, certainly not over 50 miles an hour, so what's the point of having a larger engine?

I've got a '89 mk1 golf clipper cabrio, it's a bit sick at the moment tho :(
also have a £30 renault 5 so I could teach my girlfriend to drive.

sold my supermoto last month :( too many vehicles!

All valid points. As for parking, a lot of those rounded smaller cars seem to have scrapes on their bulbous bumpers.

Sometime head to a scrapyard and see a small car that's been whacked compared to a large car.

That's two of us *demands poll option for half a car and other fractions*

That's true, in terms of safety, small cars are nowhere near as safe as larger cars, I should know, having been involved on a couple of crashes.

But, because cars never really go too fast in urban areas, the crashes tend to be at low speed anyway...

Tis true.

Ahh just me, got some horrible memories of boy racer disasters from my youth.

No car, and at the age of 43, never learned to drive. This is unlikely to change for the moment -- while in London, cyling and public transport is fine for me.

But changes are afoot! Stig has live-in hippy bus plans for next year. Limit on a car licence is three and a half tonnes, so that'll restrict vehicle options to some extent. Will have to be diesel, to leave the possibility open of running it on cooking oil ...

We'd just use it some weekends, and for festivals in the summer. Very much not for daily use, and 95% plus of the use would be out of town..
