Do you open your post as soon as it arrives?

Ohh, good point.
I should raise my game when it comes to admin. :(

*wanders off to try and decipher utility bills and bank statements.
It doesn't happen very often, but in ten years of DD utility bills and credit card bills, I've found a good fistful of mistakes that needed clearing up.

All my exciting eBay stuff is usually too small for the letterbox so I need to go and collect it. Otherwise its usually just bills, statements and junk mail - nonetheless, it does get opened within a day or so.

If it's obviously drivel, it gets binned without being opened. If it looks slightly scary, it gets opened straight away. If it looks very scary, it gets put onto the shelf for a few days/weeks until I finally pluck up the courage to open it.

(((((things that are too small for letterboxes)))))

First thing I do when I get in in the evening.

Then it gets left on the side for weeks and months.

I always open my credit card statements when they arrive and just scan down them to check that I recognise all the transactions.

i regularly look online at my statements so i don't need to check the paper ones, really. i dunno why they keep sending them actually, my bank doesn't send me paper statements. maybe i'll see if can opt out of paper statements. yeah.

Who's your credit card provider? Most of them do online statements only. Capital One certainly do.

I like a hardcopy though, because it provides a particular point in time at which I'll check it. And I keep it for three years in case I need to make a claim on something.

Online statements are great, until you need to use them as proof of identity/address. First Direct keep trying to get me to ditch paper statements & switch to online only. A few months back I had to open a new account with HSBC (who own First Direct), they needed previous bank statements as one form of proof. Paper statements only, "HSBC does not accept online statements..."

If it's obviously a bill I won't open it unless I either have the money to pay it or know I won't be able to pay it for quite a while. It's always such a nice feeling to take a bill out of the envelope, pick up the phone and the card, and pay it off right away.

I got told off today by some friends because there is a pile of unopened post by the front door and another pile in the kitchen. :o

It's all rubbish or bills and I'll open it when I can be bothered. I usually do it once a month or so. But they were adamant that you should open your post the day it arrives.

What about you? Are you as idle as me or are you super organised?

Im as idle as you love, unless it is something handwritten or interesting!
