Do you like your flat / house?

i love the flat i live in.. i wish i could own it and do the few things that need doing then stay there forever.

while im dreaming it would be good to own the whole building, theres one wall of the building which would make an amazing window (and is currently a wall in next doors flat) with the whole of the london skyline on it from canary wharf to the london eye.

My 1 bed 1st floor flat is ok,would like another bedroom and a nice little garden or balconey though, not rich enough to afford one yet:(

It is okay for us...
Price is fair for London
The place is a bit tatty and small and needs lots of TLC but suits us
We don't own it and I doubt I would buy here if I had the money to buy

I love it, it's the nicest, warmest place I've ever lived. It has double glazing, and central heating, and a marble fireplace. The decor was great when I moved in so I left it that way, but the best thing is the kitchen. It's about 5 times bigger than any kitchen I've ever had. The worst things are that it doesn't have a bath, only a shower, and the yard is TINY and concrete, but I love showers, and make the most of the space in my yard, so it's not that bad

Next door have done this and much as I hate their smug middle class guts their garden is lovely.

:D

my diy-mad neighbours put decking down. in their yard. it's a tiny fucking yard, and the fact they did it just makes me hate them more than i did before. some kind of fucked-up thinking i know

It's great in some ways (central Brixton, massive lounge for a 1 bed London flat), and shite in others (electric hobs, a shower you have to sit down in to get any water pressure). And stuff takes ages to be done through the agency - it took over a year to get the heating fixed  It's been a pretty good place for the last few years for our stage in our life, but I'll be ready to move on elsewhere when our contract runs out.

It's not great tbh. It's very gloomy and the kitchen is a bit crappy. We could have got a nicer flat for the same money I think but here we have a garden which is really nice in summer.

sounds like mine, but with a bedroom less...
and i haven't an agent.
i am cooking with gas.
my water pressure is high, and my heat is instant....

i'm discovering all the fantastic things in here, during my first 24 hours of flatliving...

there is an atticcy crawlspace with an astounding barred window with chains above it.

sounds creepy, feels peaceful :)

i found a hammock and stand out the back earlier
the last tenant nicked the sofa :D

i also have window boxes. huuuuuuge ones.

anyone got a spare beanbag?

any urbans are welcome round for a cuppa anytime :)
(any urbans, within reason ;)

some days i like our flat, but it gets too much sun (which sounds weird but is annoying) so gets quite stuffy. the front room is a bit narrow too so limits seating arrangements (as we found out today after putting together our super dooper new sofa bed only to be very limited as to where things could be positioned - it took a 4 year old to come up with the solution :o )

but i do like my kitchen, big enough to socialise in, and the flat is in a great central location. all in all will do for now....but i want a garden

i like your flat Rollem :)

i like my house too. but wish it was older, had more character, and not so crappily built. within a year all the door and window handles started falling off and the walls are so thin, we can hear each other breathe (let alone get jiggy :D :( ). i like where it's situated best - near the river and near town.

aww cheers foo, actually i like you house, its the perfect size, really homely and each room is well proportioned i think. and your garden is about as big as i could manage :D

I love it, but it is a shame we've a limited timespan here, as you couldn't get two kids in here (or not for long), it being a two-bed flat with a small second bedroom.

We have high ceilings, big rooms, period features, really good sized garden for a flat, plus the road is lovely and quiet, even though it's 5 mins walk from the tube.

One of my favourite things is that our bedroom has big french doors onto the garden (which are a bit knackered and we'll never afford to get replaced or fixed, though), so you can wake up and have a lovely, sunny view of the garden when you open the curtains. :)

I love it. Plush and cosy and, possibly, the first place I've lived where I don't get the heebyjeebies ever, even after watching horror films. It's an art deco flat on the fourth (top) floor, built around a messy, 'sub tropical' (according to the estate agents) courtyard garden with strange camp things like a gnome garden dedicated to the garden lady's late husband, and a bust of Princess Diana next to a model of a dinosaur. I love that when washing up, I can see other people in their kitchens. And people are friendly and cool.

My mum says it suits me because it's a bit odd. :hmm:

I love it so much that I often dance in the hallway and squeak with excitement. But then it has only been two and a half months.

Would be slightly better if Boy hadn't burnt a hole in my carpet.:rolleyes:
I want to live in your building. It sounds brilliant! :)

Sounds lovely. But if you're thinking you'd need three beds for when a second child outgrows the small second bedroom/nursery, you might be able to extend the lifespan for a while longer with a set of bunkbeds in the bigger room. Depends how well they get on, I guess.

it sort of depends how early a raised bunk/loft bed could be an option for a child. If a loft bed with a cot underneath it could be an option, that might make things possible. We did extend that bedroom from a box to an 8x11 foot room, and the idea was to extend 'lifespan' of the flat.

It is!! I think people just add bits of tutt that they find on their travels. And some of the older people here seem to be slightly eccentric. One has wooden men with flowerpot hats stuck around their door and another has a Terracotta Army type chap solemnly guarding hers. I wish I could post pictures but my computer is rubbish. Or I am rubbish. I don't know.
it's your computer. honestly - it is utterly shagged. get a new one.

yeah - i'm quite keen to be moving on - somewhere with luxuries like, say, windows - would be nice.

but we'll not be moving til we buy, and that's still a good six months off before we even start looking - to allow for prices to drop a little and my pay to rise in september...

I just emailed you some pics (am suddenly beyond excited by gnomes) could you poss upload them?

i dont like where i live now, it's a soulless brand new flat on stilts in the middle of middleagedsville with shitty neighbours.

but it's safe and dry.

i would love to live in an art deco house or one i build myself. with a garden. and pigs and chickens. right in the middle of a city.

*sighs*

I live in a 1970's end-of-terrace house on a council estate. I suppose it's ok, get a bigger garden than most of our neighbours but it's nothing special. I like it though, home is where the heart is after all.

My flat needs loads doing to it (kitchen and flooring mostly) so it looks a tip, but yes I do quite like it. It's very spacious for a flat, with 2 good sized bedrooms, a kitchen big enough for a table for 2 besides all the usual units and appliances, and a 22 foot lounge big enough to incorporate a dining area. And the built in storage space is astounding, 1 box room the size of a decent bathroom (the only reason it's a cupboard is that it's completely internal with no windows/ventilation) and 2 smaller built in cupboards big enough to hold vacuum cleaner and vegetable rack etc. It's also extremely quiet, being down a pedestrianised alley with no through-traffic at either front or back.

My only gripes are: a) no outside space, not even a balcony (I would love a garden!) and b) it gets really hot in summer because the lounge and kitchen face directly south and have huge windows, even when they are open there is no real air current going through.

God, I'm so jealous. By one bedroom standards everything here is big, but I still haven't got room in my kitchen for a table, and I'm pushed for wardrobe space because I insist on a pretty French ting rather than a massive Ikea wardrobe. What I wouldn't give for that box room

Hurrah! Thanks!

Look, gnomes! And ducks looking at gnomes! And princess Di looking at ducks looking at gnomes! Mental!
Love it! It just looks like it's got a really good vibe, one of the kind of places when you're flat-hunting that you just think 'This is it, I've found it' even before you actually gone over the threshold of the flat you're supposed to be looking at.[/jealous]

(And thanks to Spanglechick for uploading pics x)

I love our house - 3 bed semi with massive garden and mature trees (gives complete privacy in summer) - quiet leafy street near Meanwood Park. No plans to move anytime soon!

oh god that sounds lovely seeformiles - i always wanted to live round there when i was up north :)

millymolly - wow@those pics :D

I do like it but have been living under a building site since July.

We have our bedroom next to what is currently a living room. A new and large kitchen and small bathroom/wetroom.
Upstairs the attic has been converted into a light and airy room. Here we will have a new living room / dining room looking out onto a roof terrace.
In the kitchen, we will remove one of the windows and put in a blacony. CUrrently all we are waiting for is the stairs to arrive and the project is complete. THe builders were supposed to be ready before Xmas. Now we are looking first week of march. Promise to post photo's as soon as it is ready.
