I'm not really keen on them, but I do like dhal and lentil soup.

Thinking about it, it's dishes where they kind of retain their lentil shape and aren't strongly flavoured with something else that I don't like.

Yeah, I think this could be me aswell.

yes I like lentils, but after eating them two day on the trot I thought I was going to take off this morning

I'm the same with most pulses and beans e.g. I like chilli con carne but detest red kidney beans in a salad.

Oh, I like kidney beans and other pulses however they're cooked. It's just lentils to me has an earthy gruel thing about them that makes me shudder.

Yeah, most people find my aversion to un/mildly flavoured cold pulses and beans a bit odd :D

I love lentils. Growing up, I rejected them as too wholefood/nut roast/worthy but as an adult I have come to embrace them. Here are some recipes:

Puy lentil lasanga: http://101things.wordpress.com/2007/03/19/puy-lentil-lasagne/

Sausage and lentil casserole: http://101things.wordpress.com/2006/04/18/sausage-and-lentil-casserole/

Pork belly and braised puy lentils: http://101things.wordpress.com/2008/02/28/roast-pork-belly-with-braised-puy-lentils/

Ham and lentil soup: http://101things.wordpress.com/2006/05/11/ham-stock-ham-and-lentil-soup/

Love those lentils.

what sort of lentils though? i like most types, depending on what I'm using them for but don't use red ones as much as others such as puy and green lentils.

I like sloppy lentils with curry spices and the like (ie dal) put I'm not massively keen on more European styles and firmer puy lentils.

You sure your mum didn't use chick peas for the inside of roti Madusa?- chana/dhalpuri style. A faff to make, but bloody lovely

Oh yeah...it could may well have been chickpeas. :o:D:D

You've never actually eaten a lentil, have you?

You're just confused.
:hmm:

No I have definitely eaten lentils loads of times before and have never liked the dish. Gruel as I said...just in my mind what my ma used in roti was lentils not chick peas cos as I said before: was the only way I could enjoy them. But it wasnt even so!

To be fair, I find em a bit underwhelming without a hefty dose of spice. But what's not to like about curried slop, of lentils or otherwise?
