Lentils are lovely in a dish with other stuff, but on their own they are flavourless.

Dhal FTW!

They do have a subtle flavour though, like a kidney beans/nuts thing...

I'm not really keen on them, but I do like dhal and lentil soup.

Thinking about it, it's dishes where they kind of retain their lentil shape and aren't strongly flavoured with something else that I don't like.

Yeah, I think this could be me aswell.

do you put them in the pan dry or soaked?

the ones I buy don't need to be soaked overnight, so I just give them a quick rinse.

I also make a mean lentil soup/broth, but I think it's the barley that makes it sooooo good barley is seriously underrated

Oh, I like kidney beans and other pulses however they're cooked. It's just lentils to me has an earthy gruel thing about them that makes me shudder.

what sort of lentils though? i like most types, depending on what I'm using them for but don't use red ones as much as others such as puy and green lentils.

I like sloppy lentils with curry spices and the like (ie dal) put I'm not massively keen on more European styles and firmer puy lentils.

You sure your mum didn't use chick peas for the inside of roti Madusa?- chana/dhalpuri style. A faff to make, but bloody lovely

Oh yeah...it could may well have been chickpeas.

No I have definitely eaten lentils loads of times before and have never liked the dish. Gruel as I said...just in my mind what my ma used in roti was lentils not chick peas cos as I said before: was the only way I could enjoy them. But it wasnt even so!

true true. I've only ever had them cooked for me so maybe it was just their cooking...
