Do you like food that you don't like?

The texture. I'm okay with stew but it took me a lot of effort to be able to put a spoonful of liquidised soup in my mouth without gagging. I'm not a fussy eater, it was completely involuntary.

I can't eat porridge or rice pudding though.

Oh no - porridge and rice pudding are lush!!

I love the texture of soup - all lovely and warm and cosy, also no effort involved in eating - perfect for when you're poorly ............. or just lazy!! :D
 
What's that soup with an egg in?

Like a boiled egg?

A fair few chinese soups use egg for thickening - you typically whisk an egg in at the end of cooking in a chicken and sweetcorn soup for example, making those little white strands appear in the soup.
 
Well it's got paprika in it and I think it has tomato in it and it's spanish, and you crack an egg in when it's finished cooking
 
It's always worth persevering with food you don't like, particularly if it's because of a strong/unusual taste, because it often becomes the food you like the most.

I find it hard to believe that I once abhored curry so much that I'd leave the house if anyone was eating it because I loathed the smell.

I couldn't stand anything that was even remotely spicey.

Coriander used to make me feel unwell.

And blue cheese? *spew*


Obviously these are some of the greatest foods known to man - imagine if I'd just given up on them?

Sprouts though - yeah, I've never got sprouts.
 
Olives are shit and I shall never eat another as long as I live. People who do eat the wretched, slimy little fuckers have fallen for the biggest scam in history as the exact same culinary effect can be created far more cheaply by mixing a tablespoon of salt into a teaspoon of grease and then seasoning with toilet bleach. Pour this mixture into the skin of a grape, along with a small piece of gravel to crack your teeth on, and you have yourself an olive.
This all seems like an awful lot of effort when I could just buy some olives for the same effect :confused:
 
could work but seems like too much going on to me. You wanna be able to taste the sprouts!

I thought the point was that some people don't want to taste the sprouts, hence the addition of all the other stuff!

But you're right though, I suppose bacon chilli and carlic could be a bit overpowering - though you could just use a small amount of each to add a subtle kick to the flavour
 
Blue cheese - me too, yuk. Not even going to try with that one.

And shellfish. I can just about cope with (peeled) prawns, crab and lobster - but all the others ... nooooooooooo

I like eating olives and now, with a couple of years of practice under my belt, can sometimes do it without screwing my face up.

I think it would be a culinary balancing act but it could work! :)

I did train myself to like them, though. When I was a teenager, I had a jar of olives and would take one out and eat it every day, wanting to like them because they were 'sophisticated.' Heh. Now I genuinely really, really love them.
 
I like to try stuff I thought I disliked. Its just as well I used to be a really fussy eater.

My favourite find this year is mustard.
 
The only food like that for me is sushi. Growing up, the idea of eating fish raw, was nauseating. So I had trepidation when I moved to the coast, and friends took me to a sushi restaurant. But I took to it immediately, even though it was unfamiliar.

If I hadn't liked it, that would have been it: no sushi for me, thanks!:)

Still can't quite like mustard - keep trying though as it's often in recipes that sound good. i can just about stomach coarse grain mustard in stuff so long as it's not too over powering. same with horseraddish - keep on persevering!
 
When I was a yout at nursery school (between age 3 and 5), all I wanted to eat was tuna and rice, or bread that my mum made, cheese, or Jamaican food (yam, banana, plantain, dumplings etc.),

I remember being at my aunties house with my mom, everyone decided to order pizza. I wanted a tuna pizza, but there was no such thing :D so she ordered a cheese one, and I wouldn't eat it because it had tomatoes on it :confused:

I really can't imagine being scared to eat tomatoes, even if I was only about 4

I stopped being fussy about food when I went to Jamaica aged 6, I consumed it fast and in large quantities without complaint

I like eating mustard even though I don't like mustard. I like mustard mixed with mayonaise.

I also like honey in things but I would never eat honey on toast. blech.
 
I suppose I'm now an ex-vegan. I still find the idea of milk and eggs fucking disgusting (milk moreso than eggs), I don't like the taste of them either, but I just eat them... convenient and useful I suppose
