Do you like Argentina?

Apropos of not very much, I was talking to a Brazilain guy the other night and we talked about France 98 and how someone or something 'got' to Ronaldo before the Final.

Then he reminded me of how the qualifying for the '78 World Cup in Argentina was also fixed so Brazil didn't qualify. I know Argentina won it, but . . .

their rugby team are cheating scumcunts
and its unnecessary because they are a decent side who should enter the tri-nations
football- i like
all those class players

they shouldnt have lost to england in the last worldcup
their wingers in the 5 man midfield should have tracked back better.

they always play with flair and imagination.

I liked Aimar - he absolutely tore liverpool apart when he came to Anfield as a Valencia player.

But then he was playing under the best manager in the World.

Since then, he's done next to nowt.

yup, very inconsistent player

You cant knock some of the players they have had in the past/present.

But no I dont like them at all, I even love it when Brazil beat them......because it pisses them off no end :D

I've always had a soft spot for the argies. In recent times they've tended to play exciting attacking football based on a brilliantly fluent passing game and some amazingly talented players like Ariel Ortega (ugliest bloke in world football?), Veron (before he turned rubbish), Aimar, Riquelme and many more.

In fact outside of the Premiership, La Liga and the Champions League the two Argentinian League tournies are the ones I enjoy watching the most. The overall standard may not be up to the bigger European leagues but the individual attacking play is usually sensational.

One of the main reasons I'm looking forward to the World Cup is to see how well Carlos Tevez (another candidate for ugliest bloke in world football) does at a major international tournament. I haven't been able to watch him play for Corinthians in Brazil, but I remember seeing him for Boca a few seasons ago when he was 18 and he's a magnificient player. He reminds me a bit of Rooney except with a little more guile and less raw power. I hope he starts tomorrow.

I respect them for always being one of the top world sides in spite of the country generally being poor and a population of less then half the UK. But they're as cynical as they are talented and I could never want them to beat anyone.

FUCKING BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET IT RIGHT UP YOU!!!!!!!!

What a pleasant surprise to see so many here who are friendly towards Argies! Thank you.

Moody, briliant -- from Almeyda to Veron to Tevez to Messi; from Che to Eva Peron; from Maradona to Marcelo Bielsa; from Mate tea to barbecue steaks with chimichurri sauce ...

JUST LOVE 'EM!

The thing is, as an English person, I should dislike them, but I don't. However, the admiration amongst others on this thread is probably more down to the fact that they dislike England rather than an admiration of Argentina.
I am surprised that they have a population less than England, but it's cool that they have been more successful and fair play to them.

It's not such a pleasant surprise to see so many people so positive towards the Argies, in particular because they're playing England. Everyone (home nations predomintley) hate us, but I'm even more so proud that others have to have wasted so much energy and time in doing, so I see it mainly as a compliment.

Ricky Villa:

I remember him scoring an utterly amazing goal for Tottenham in the 1981 FA cup final.

I have very vague memories of Spurs fans chanting his name before the following year's final, while he watched from the wings (I could be wrong about this).

Anyway, wonderful stuff.

That was in the replay - in the first game (which I was lucky enough to get a ticket for) he was shite. I liked the guy though he ahd a lot of skill for a 'big' man.

And it was a wonderful goal.

there was a polish guy at my work for a while. he went to a couple of scotland games with some guys from armadale sons of wallace tartan army. he bought himself a scotland top and had maradona '86 on the back. I believe also that their wonderful striped tops are made in the kingdom(of Fife)

A wee bit of a song:
.....You put yer left hand in, yer lfet hand out, you do the Maradona and you put the English out!!! :D :D

argentina have a cool strip and some cool players

since most of em live in italy they are a bunch of tarts tho

Been to see Boca Juniors a number of time in Buenos Aires, strange thing is, when they score a goal there is not the animalistic roar like we get here, they just keep on singing and banging their drums!
