Do you jump red lights 2009

The car knows you're going straight on cos you don't indicate

I'm really confused but I always treat roundabouts exactly the same as I would in a car. I also take up the whole lane.

The only place where I feel nervous is if I'm coming over vauxhall bridge, heading south. The road markings sort of jig round to the right and you need to be in the middle lanes in order to go right to Brixton and cars come off the lights stupidly fucking quick and cut off the road markings before piling into the chaos under the bridge.

So I go over Lambeth Bridge now. Much more civilised. ;)

Does this help? Green is good. Red is bad.
The big roundabouts usually have a 'spiral' arrangement of lanes instead of concentric circles anyway, so you don't even have to cross any 'lanes' on the actual roundabout.

I use the cycle lane there - I see loads of bikes going under the bridge on the right and it puzzles me why they don't follow the cycle lane.

That crash symbol could apply to both routes though.

Yes, stay in the outer lane. You don't turn right on roundabouts, you only turn left!
The car knows you're going straight on cos you don't indicate - obviously I now know this is wrong as everyone says you shouldn't do this, but no-one ever told me. The idea of crossing 2 lanes of turning traffic worries me though. I don't even like to do it on a straight road (at lights, I nearly always move lanes once the traffic has stopped)

Do you drive? In fairness I probably wouldn't get it if I didn't drive.

but you still have to cross in front of traffic to get out of the inside lane, don't you?
Not if everybody's being good, because everybody on the outside should have turned off already and everybody turning off at your exit should be in front or behind of you. Roundabouts are beautiful things when everything goes to plan.

I used to follow the Highway Code pretty much to the letter and ride as I drive a car, plus wear bright clothes to make me more visible, but I kept getting cut up, pulled out on and knocked off.

Since I started wearing black and jumping the occasional red light when no-one's watching, not only has riding become more enjoyable, but I don't seem to get cut up or pulled out on anymore. You'd think it would be the opposite, but it's true - now that my clothing is less eye-catching, people seem to notice me more and give way when they're supposed to.

I hate seeing cyclists go through reds though, it really annoys me, and I wouldn't recommend it, but it's fun!

sorry for the bump :)

I was having a smoke at the bottom of church street in stoke newington, by some traffic lights and there were two cyclists stopped at a red light  It is easy enough for cyclists to jump this red light, not dangerous, so I wasn't sure why they had stopped, anyways, I watched as a woman in her 50s, on an old bike with a basket on it, cycled slowly past these two (males in their 20s) as if on a country ride, and slowly went through the red light and took the left hand turn. The lead guy also seemed a little embaressed that this woman had cycled very slowly through the red, whilst he waited, so in order to restore his dignity, pulled a standing wheelie  which meant he missed the light turning green and had to be nudged by the bloke behind, it made I chuckle, :D
