Yeah well gentlegreen implied that a life without onions was a life without houmus.

Which is basically mentally deranged talking.

There are probably a lot of people out there that feel the same about garlic as you do about onions.

Garlic is also the basis to a whole lot of dishes (including houmous).

What would you say to them?

If you don't like onions, how can you like garlic ?

seriously. I don't know why you keep doing this to me. If someone came near me with that I would scream. I'm actually being honest there.

I would scream and retch. RETCH.

Well like I say, garlic and onions are different things.

Yes but in respect to your OP, they are both the basis to so much stuff that its quite difficult to avoid them.
They are both strong in flavour.
They are both used together in a lot of cooking.

You can surely see why they would be compared?

That is a different question though, I don't understand why people were suggesting I couldn't dislike onions but like garlic at the same time.

I've only known one true onion-hater in real life & he was a totally neurotic Thatcherite tory cunt.

Good company then electrogirl? :p

I dont like onions. I cook with it cos I like the flavour, but I always pick them out of my serving cos I hate the texture. Raw/red/spring onions are fine though.

well if by 'key ingredient' you mean 'guaranteed to make your recipe only taste of onions' then yeah. Totes.
then you must be some sort of hyperonionsensitive freak, unless you're specifically referring to a recipe that only contains onions. there is no food that only tastes of onions except for onions themselves

I didn't suggest you couldn't like garlic whilst disliking onions.

I was just curious as to your views on the comparison.
