do you give your car a name?

"The Guantanamobile"

or at least that's what my mates call it after some drunker sods wrote "CLOSE GUANTANAMO" in massive permanent marker on the bonnet on christmas eve and I drove it round for months before the elements wore it away.

My car is a boy and his name is nicecar, cos I had to be nice to him lots when I first got him incase he decided to explode or breakdown or something.

Calling inanimate objects a name is daft. Its a car, not a household pet.

Any personality traits you attribute to any mechanical beast is entirely down to your lack of cash and mild insanity.

The first car I drove - my old man's toyota corolla estate, was dubbed by my friends as 'the boat'...

The boat days were good days - went to a lot of free parties in the boat :D

you don't really have to give a name to a household pet, it's just a custom, I don't attribute any personality traits to Gunther, he's german, he wouldn't want me to do that

my first car was a red fiat seicento called Jess as she looked like a postman pat van
my second car was called Derek, he was a nissan micra
i don't have a car at the mo but do have a bicycle called Beryl

Grumpy :D

I've not shown much imagination, mine have always been called baby or gorgeous.

Kind of what I call my men too - god I really am boring :(

My nissan sunny was called 'whale-opi' (a girl i was trying to bone named it....... i never got to bone :( )
My seat ibiza was called 'cunt' (it had to be returned to the garage 19 times in the first year of ownership, it was a brand new car)
My honda civic sport is called 'the buggy' (someone called it that once and it stuck)

Just the once, a 1965 blue Morris Traveler that I had about 18 years ago, I called her Prudence - I loved that car and it broke my heart when I couldn't afford to do the work needed to get her through the MOT (replacing the wood which was totally rotten) and so had to sell her for spares or repair

:(

My old Volvo 1800S is the only car that had a name, from the first three letters of the number plate. Janice. :)

I want that car! *jealous*

After a conversation with a close female friend about naming cars (mostly her ranting about why you should name your car) i relented and called my current car Gary...

still don't refer to it as that though

Most of my cars have had names. My first car was a piece of junk I named "The Shitbird." It was a Ford Thunderbird.

I had a 1/4 ton pickup truck I called "Little Red."

A white Ford Taurus station wagon called "The Spaceship."

A PT Cruiser I called "The Go-Cart."

I just changed cars to a large minivan that has more amenities than my house. including a refrigerator, factory 12 volt system, stow and go seats, hands free phone, cruise control, a dvd player, satellite radio, back up camera, etc. I'm calling it "The Land Yacht" until it further distinguishes itself.

My car is called RED GOLF XTREME as it is a red Golf reg RGX etc 😎 but I don’t call her that to her face, even though she is apparently a her.

No because I don’t have multiple cars and five-year old children who would benefit from an easy way to distinguish between them.

Yup, It is quite common to name steam locomotives, boats and other means of transport.
Some named officially, others are more in the line of nicknames.

There's an engine in North Wales with a livery that looks a cross between oxtail and tomato soup, it also hisses a lot ... so that has "Soup Dragon" or just "Soupy" as the nickname.

I shared a 500cc Matchless m/b that answered to "Thunderguts" and my current AJS 650 is "The Big Lass" and given the moodiness her reg letters are, appropriately enough, pms ...

Various cars have had nicknames, usually related to their registrations or a pun on the make, model or colour.
The Rover 25 is a pale gold and the resemblance to crystallised honey ...
My dark blue 206 was originally registered in Scotland so got "Hamish" as a nickname.

No it's a car, it's a lump of metal not a person or a pet. I call it the Audi.
