Do you buy more than one of the same thing? (clothes)

I've just realised I've got a dress from there that I've never worn but I haven't kept the receipt. Do you think they'd let me exchange it for something else? :hmm: I only bought it about 5 weeks ago.

I really like the last frock I bought from Tesco - it was only a tenner and I always get compliments when I wear it. The other day I wondered if I should buy another one the same. Part of me thinks it would be a good idea as it would alleviate the wear and tear on this one and I'd have a replacement to wear when this one's in the wash. The other part of me thinks it's a ridiculous idea.

^^
That's me, that is

Definitely. If I really really like something I will buy 2 or 3 if I can. Its rare that I like any clkothing or shoes that much and what usually happens is that when it wears out, breaks or gets lost I am unable to find anything like it again.

Jeans. Socks. Pants.

I used to buy multiple trainers when I only wore those hitech baseball things (20 years ago though)

No I dont do that. Why would you want to look like you dont have any clothes and have to wear the same things over and over?

I already managed to snap a strap on it last night  Kind of clinched the decision tbf

You don't have to wear the same thing over and over but it's nice to have something for twice as long if it's flattering. I'll be able to wear this dress in winter as well with a cardigan and tights and boots. And believe me I don't have the problem of looking like I don't have many clothes. I've just decided that I have a bit of a problem with clothes and even if I wore different outfit every day for the next two months I'd struggle to wear the same thing twice :o Hence the wardrobe containing things I've never even worn once. I have to get it sorted as there's no available space in my bedroom anymore.

And now mr and mini madz have confused me by saying the dress I was going to take back for exchange (it still has all its tags on) looks nice and I should keep it.

Because of the sizing problem?* I don't often find something which fits, that I like, and I can afford.

*height as well as width

hmm. One of the most eccentric bosses I ever had was the head librarian at central saint martins who wore the same clothes every day. Indigo jeans with a purple rollneck and no bra. EVERYDAY. it was like a uniform. It was well weird. She must have done the same as you guys cos she never smelt or anything so she must have just had hundreds of copies of the same outfit.

Well they didn't have the dotty dress in my size but they did have a very nice green and white linen dress for the same price as the one I want to take back. I don't have a receipt for the other one and it's more than 28 days old so I'll just use the receipt from the new one

Yes.

Although I recommend not making the mistake of getting dressed in the dark, while half asleep, and putting on one each of otherwise identical navy blue and black shoes. I think I only made it as far as the bus-stop before realising I was wearing odd-coloured shoes, and went home to change. :o

I also bought three pairs of the same pair of black shoes. I bought the first pair, and they were the most comfortable high heels I'd ever worn, so I went back and bought two more pairs, as I knew once they were out of stock, I'd never be able to buy any more. And then I went into a different branch of the same store and bought a pair in silver. Unfortunately, I've wrecked all the black ones in the works car park, which is like a building site, but I still have the silver ones.

I've also bought the same cardigan in coral pink and blue. :o

And I realised that if you buy identical black cotton socks, you always have matching pairs! :)

I also bought a black skirt and top that were a bargain from TKMaxx. A Nicole Fahri outfit, original price about 250, but only 18 in a sale at TKMaxx. I also bought an identical top in red. But I wish I'd bought more of them. It's quite plain and boring, but people have paid me compliments fairly often when I've worn it. But I wore and washed it so often that I was trying to put my cabin bag in the overhead locker on the flight home and realised I had a hole under the arm. :o I haven't thrown it away, I'm hoping to get to a tailor before I leave and have it copied.

I do with jeans if I find a pair I like because jeans are hard to buy I find.

I have also done it a couple of times with tops if I really like them but they look like they might not last long. I've also done in with stuff on sale if I want it in a smaller size for when I magically lose all this weight I'm planning to. Those things eventually go in the slimming suitcase. :o

I regularly buy black t shirts. I have lots.

There was a painter once who always wore a grey suit and a bowler hat even when painting so that he looked like a businessman. He died. His wardrobe was found be completely full of identical grey suits. People had thought that he just had the one suit that he wore all the time. The painter was Renee Magritte the Belgian Surrealist.

I have only ever heard that story, never seen it in writing. One version had Marcel Duchamp as the artist. I suppose nowadays it could be Gilbert and George.

Tomorrow I must get another black t shirt.
